Hi,

We are staying at the Polynesian in August. Can anyone recommend a nice bar for a cool beer in the evening?

Tambu Lounge I am aware of, as well as The Wave at Contemporary.
I believe Mizner's lounge is an option at the Grand Floridian, any opinions on these or other suggestions welcome please.

If they have room up there because it depends on how busy they are, there is also the bar at the California Grill.

We love the Tambu Lounge. They have some of the best speciality mojitos I have ever had!

There's The Outer Rim at the Contemporary. It's up on the Concourse Level. The Wave at the Contemporary also has a neat bar area as well.

Johnny you have many good suggetions here. Because you are from across the pond, I might just mention that if you and others in your party might consume more than one or more each evening of your stay, you might want to consider getting a cab for a beer run or ordering your alcohol from a delivery service(there are grocery services tht deliver beeer, wine, etc).
Scout around and you'll see many posts re the delivery options.:earsboy:

There is a nice spot in the WL as well--don't remember the name.

The Tambu Lounge is very nice, but it does have some drawbacks. The bar itself is (unsurprisingly) themed as a Tiki bar which fits right in with our love of the whole island-living vibe. However, there aren't many seats at the bar and it's bang slap in the middle of the entrance to 'Ohana which means the lounge seating mainly serves as a waiting area for that. This is a problem common to quite a few onsite lounges and it doesn't really make for a civilised adult experience.

Mizner's is a bright, quiet, refined (although not stuffy) lounge where you'll find it easy to perch on a bar stool and strike up a conversation with the bartender or your fellow drinkers, if that's your thing.

Territory Lounge is all dark wood and subdued lighting. A very pleasant place to while away some time. Although it's right outside the entrance to Artist Point, it's self-contained so it doesn't seem to suffer from the "waiting room" phenomenon.

The Wave is modern, sophisticated and grown-up in a way that Disney doesn't usually do well. During early evening it's abuzz with the pre-dinner convention crowd. Well worth a trip from the Poly.

The Outer Rim isn't my idea of a great bar. It lacks something which I can't quite put my finger on. It seems like an afterthought.

The suggestion of asking about a seat at the bar at California Grill is a good one. If you're on your own, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. Just ask at the podium on level 2 of the Contemporary.

ITA with Deb except that we don't care for Mizner's. It's too quiet for us. It felt stuffy to us, but maybe that was just the night we were there.

Tambu is great if you can get a seat at the bar. It is very loud & hectic since that's where everyone waits for Ohana. But the drinks are great, the nibbles are good & it's festive & fun.

Of the MK area lounges, we liked The Wave the best. It was relaxed & comfortable, yet had good energy. People were all friendly & the service was good.

I do like the CA Grill bar, but have only been there pre-dinner. It's always been pretty busy when we've been there.

The Tambu Longe is the only one I've tried of these and I totally agree about it being in a bad location. Probably the only bar I've ever seen that actually lets kids sit up at the bar.

DH and I will be staying at WL in December, so I can't wait to try Territory Lounge. From the looks of it, it seemed very peaceful.

Yes, agree with Deb!

Other spots: Narcoosee's at the GF has a nice bar area. The pool bar at the Poly is often open until the fireworks begin at MK, so that's a nice alternative to Tambu (which, as Deb rightly points out, feels a bit like an airport waiting area rather than a relaxing adult spot.) I echo others...a big fan of Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge and the Wave.
