Banning question...

My DD was on VMK last night when we called her to dinner. She left herself in the guest room she was in with her friends' list open so she wouldn't get d/c. When she went back to the computer, there was a message that the whole room was banned, supposedly for 24 hours.

Would they ban the IP for a 24 hour ban? I tried to get on this evening (Not knowing about last night at the time) and it isn't letting me. This is when I found out about the 24 hour ban. There is some sort of ban message when I try to log in, but I cannot see the whole thing. So, I do not know how long it is for.

Is it wrong for me to want to strangle my Dd right now?

yes, they do IP bans for everything now. It started when the new moderation processes kicked in.

its not wrong unless you actually do it BTW

ETA: write in to contact us for her and challenge the ban. If she was really AFK and not participating they can see that and get it off the record.

I'm not sure what to say to that but I dont think it was exactly your DD fault bc she was having dinner and she probably had no idea what was going on...

Thanks for the explanation. I was skeptical about the 24 hour ban because of the IP address ban. But, I feel better now.

I'll have to contact the black hole I guess. and ask them to review the fact that while she was in the room, she wasn't participating in what was going in. Maybe I'll even get a response.

I know it isn't her fault and I really don't want to strangle her. But I sure wish she would have said something when it happened instead of when I asked her if there was any reason why I was getting a ban message this evening. She didn't understand the whole IP thing and why I wouldn't be able to get on if she get the ban message.

Oh well, live and learn.

I leave my friends list open all the time, but you don't get a ban for that. I do it if I'm sitting in a room waiting for something or someone.

My advice is:
Never leave your person unattended in a room unless you are locked in your room by yourself or the room owner is good at moderating and boots those who break the rules. What happened to your DD happens to many people who walk away from the computer. It's much safer to just log off.

I did explain to her that if she is not actively doing something on VMK, that she should skip the friends list trick and just get off VMK, if she is going to be away from the PC for a long period of time (like dinner)

just tell her to go in one of her own rooms and lock it and then leave her friends list up. I do this alot if I am in a host Q and need to go afk and it works fine and nobody can come in and cause trouble

If you Have Any Problems On Vmk its Best To Write a "Contact us" I Dont Approve Of This Happening But You Should Send One ASAP!
