A general query to a forum where I know there are tons of people with differing opinions! (and again, NOT about this site!)
When does a poster become so disruptive to the tone/culture of a message board that he/she should be banned?
I'm a member of a site for particular family problems. There is one poster who seems to be quite severely mentally ill. She claims to have the family problems that the other posters all have, but when she posts details, her issues are NOTHING like anyone else's, and most of them seem to be products of her imagination. She posts non relevant posts, hijacks threads, becomes very rude and verbally abusive when people disagree with her and seems to be paranoid in the clinical sense.
Her presence on the board has caused many regulars to curtail their posting or vanish altogether. However, the site owners defend not banning her by stating that SHE percieves that she has the same nature of problems as the rest of the posters, so she should remain on the site because it is an avenue of support for her.
She's effectively shut down rational discussion and appropriated the board for use as her own delusional playground, but since she's not "doing it on purpose" according to the mods, she can stay.
Opinions on this?
I won't be able to check back until tomorrow morning, so if anyone needs more detail, I can get back then.
Thanks,
Jane
