Well, here's my take on the whole thing:
In a "normal" set of circumstances, if 2 people want to hang out and say they are "together, I'm fine with it, even if it is in joking. But as we all know, VMK is in many ways anything BUT normal. Personally, I feel very creepy when I think of all the little girls who don't even know me, who keep asking me to "be their boi". No matter how many times you say no, that you don't do that, you're not interested, whatever, many won't leave you alone. The best you can do is set them to "ignore", and move on. ....and at 34 yrs old, I'm not ANYBODY's "BoI".
While it was designed for the 8 - 14 group, there's tons of us above that age range. (I wonder if the VMK folks really understand this?) Even if we know someone that's on VMK from here, some other online board, or even IRL, we can't get too detailed about personal info without somebody raising the red flag. My recommendation would be to use AIM, Yahoo chat, or some other instant msg program while on VMK. This way you can chat a bit more freely with your friends, while at the same time having fun and following the rules in VMK.
As far as seeing something that is in any way disturbing to you, I firmly believe that cases like this should be handled like any case of seeing/hearing something offensive. Like in sexual harassment in the workplace, you have to tell the people doing what's offending you to stop, and that it's offending you. If they keep doing it after that, then an employee can file sexual harassment. It may be just courtesy, but if I see or hear something like this, I ask them to stop. If they don't, then I report them. If they stop, then no harm - no foul. Personally, OMG does not offend me. (actually, it takes quite a bit to "offend" me, but there are some things that don't offend me, but are way inappropriate for the board )
There are a couple of people I know only on VMK that are pretty cool, and might be cool IRL. Then again, they might be 8 yrs old, and then I'd feel REALLY weird! (hahaha). But we all have to remember, the rules are for our protection, and the protection of the kids out there. While they might be strict and constraining, they're there for a good cause.
That's just my 6.5 cents worth (2 cents plus inflation and interest).
