Banking points

So if we cancel our upcoming 160 point Aulani trip and want to use next December. Our use year is September. I say we have to bank our points and use them in December 2021. My husband says we do not have to bank just rebook our trip for next December 2021. We have to bank them correct? As we will pass our use year (September) and 2021 points will become available and in realty will have 320 points available. We would still use the 2020 points at our home resort 11 months out but would have to bank first then use these banked points? I thought I had my head wrapped around it but now am confused. We are looking for clarification and ideas to how to best do this.

Sept 2020 points would have to be banked to be used for a Dec 2021 reservation.

I am assuming your upcoming trip means a trip in December 2020, so if you had used your current UY points, then they will expire August 31, 2021. These points have to be banked to be used for a December 2021 reservation. Obviously, if you had used banked or borrowed points, then they can't be used for any reservation beyond August 31, 2021.

So when we bank them how soon are we able to use them to book a trip?

We want to book 11 months out at home resort for next December . We have not canceled our Aulani trip yet. We need to do that by Jan. 10th. It's scheduled for February. We are sad, but with covid, restrictions and too many things could go wrong. We are hanging onto a thread of hope but the vaccine is just starting so we are preparing to cancel.

So when we bank them how soon are we able to use them to book a trip?

As soon as the points are banked, they can be used for the next UY (September 2021 through August 2022) as long as you are in your booking window.

If you decided to book first and then cancel, you could then back the points.

Once banked, you could modify the December 2021 trip, don’t change a thing, and the system would pick up the banked points.

This would only be if you wanted to decide more last minute to cancel. If you know you are not going, cancel and bank ahead of time.
