Banking/borrowing

I have read the book (twice) and am still somewhat confused about banking/borrowing. Here's my question: If I plan on a Thanksgiving 2004 trip, I will need to borrow some points (less than 100) to book at BCV at 11 months out. Meanwhile, I hope to switch to OKW, my real target, at 7 months. OKW will still involve borrowing, but not as many. So what happens to the borrowed points? I THINK I am stuck with them. They are in that year for good. When I make the res at OKW I have to ask them to use borrowed points first, then I have to BANK the remaining points into the following year. Is that right?

Also confusing is the double-booking. When do I cancel my BCV reservations? One day at a time? If I call and they have the OKW room available, can I ask them to cancel just that one day at BCV so I have the points available to book the one day of the room at OKW? I can book BCV in Dec 2003 and OKW in April 2004. My use year is March so I think this plan works? If I get my way in April there is plenty of time to bank the remaining 2003 points. (?)

If you will have current use year points you may then be able to bank them. The 2 options in this case are to have extra points that you've borrowed or to make what you can with the points you'll have access to.

Yes, assuming that you do not plan to use the points before 3/1/2005.

You can cancel the BCV ressie one day at a time if you like.

I'm a little confused though about what points you are using for the Thanksgiving 2004 ressie. If you are using 2003 points for that, you need to bank them into your 2004 use year before you can use them for Thanksgiving 2004.

Assuming your last sentence was a typo and you meant bank the remaining 2004 points, yes you will have plenty of time. With a March use year, you have until the end of August 2004 to bank the remaining 2004 use year points into your 2005 use year.

Since you don't have enough points to hold the entire BCV ressie until you get all the days at OKW, I'd recommend that you just make one call for the OKW ressies. That would be 7 months ahead of check out. At that point, if you don't get all the days right away, you can decide if you want to risk using the waitlist. If the waitlist come through, great! If not, you would have to be willing to move between BCV and OKW, maybe more than once. Only you can decide if that would work for you. It's hard to switch if you don't have enough points to hold the back up ressie! Personally, I don't think you will have too much trouble even though Thanksgiving week is fairly popular. OKW is quite a bit larger than the other WDW DVC resorts.

You might consider looking for an OKW owner to make the ressies for you at the 11 month window. You could make a BCV ressie for the OKW owner at the 11 month in return. Yu could negotiate how to settle up the difference - perhaps a payment for the difference or a point transfer.

Good luck!

Good luck!

Thank you for the info. I am already planning tentatively for this and will begin tucking away points. The whole "borrowing then banking" thing makes my head spin -- I am afraid that I will somehow lose points in this because of misunderstanding on my part. I DO understand that the only points I can bank are the current year's points.

Mybe this will help:
You bank this years points. Then if you do not have enough to make a res. you borrow from next year. Thats pretty much it. The problem usually comes when you have to cancel a res. w/ borrowed pts.
