Banking/Borrowing Question

Very frustrating call with MS today. Any advice would be appreciated. Here's my situation -- I'll use round numbers since it's easier.

June UY. In my 2011 UY, I have 50 regular June 2011 UY points, and 50 points that were banked from 2010.

I want to make a reservation for July 2011, that requires 25 points. However, I want to use my 2011 UY points, not the banked points. (Why? Well, because there's some chance I will be canceling the reservation in a couple of months. However, there is another reservation I want, for which my 11 month window has not yet opened, that is set is stone, and I'd rather use the banked points for that one.)

MS tells me, "the computer pulls the banked points first," and he is powerless to do anything about it.

The only thing I can think to do is try to find a dummy reservation that requires exactly 75 points and make it, using all 50 of the banked points and 25 of the of June 2011 UY points. Then, make the reservation I want, which should draw the 25 2011 UY points, then cancel the first dummy reservation. Will that even work? This seems way too cumbersome, though. Is there really no way to get the computer to "pull" the regular points first? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the system does use banked points first.

However, if you book the for sure trip and then have to cancel the July 2011 trip that used banked points, all you have to do is ask MS to reallocate those points to the "for sure" trip and put back the current UY points.

It should not be an issue at all, as long as the July 2011 trip is cancelled before you travel on that other vacation.

Awesome -- thanks everyone. I actually did just call back, booked the dummy reservation to occupy the banked points, then got the one I wanted to use the current UY points for, then went back and canceled the dummy. Worked like a charm.

The representative I got understood immediately what I wanted to do and even helped find a dummy reservation that would use exactly all my banked points.
