Banking borrowing, etc question

Will you please let me know if I'm understanding this correctly? My use year is August. I have points from 2013 (I think they expire August 2015), then I have points from this August 2014. I can either use them or bank them by January.

If I make a reservation for May 2015 where I need to use all of the 2013 points and the 2014 points and 23 of the 2016 points, and then if I end up deciding to take a day off of the reservation, so as a result I would have something like 38 points that I don't need to use. If I figure this out by December would I then be able to bank those points and they would be 2014 points, to be used by August 2016?

your August 2013 points expired at the end of July, 2014. If they were banked, they expire at the end of July 2015.

You need the points in your account during the time of your reservation, not when you book the reservation.

You have 8 months from the start of your UY to bank points.

Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.

If you change a reservation that uses a combo of points, make sure that the points returned to your account are current UY points. If you are still in your 8 month banking window, you can bank the returned points.

like bill, i am assuming you actively chose to bank those 2013 pts. if so, you are good. if not, those pts are gone.

your banking window for aug 2014 pts closes on march 31, 2015.

a may 2015 stay takes place in your 2014 UY, so you would not have access to 2016 pts. you could borrow from your 2015 UY, which i'm pretty sure is what you meant.

verify with MS when you cancel the day from the reservation that you are freeing up 2014 UY pts. so long as you cancel by march 31, 2015 (as noted above), you would have the option of banking those 2014 UY pts into 2015 so that they would expire if not used for a stay by july 31, 2016.

I think Charles did a great job of explaining how to do what you want to do. Please, if you want a May 2015 trip, DO NOT BANK your 2014 points in December as you proposed as that would make them unavailable for your trip.

BTW, If you are planning a May 2015 vacation at your home resort make it NOW or ASAP any other resort make the reservation next month.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I didn't do a better job articulating what I was trying to say. We just bought the interest. The 2013 points were already banked.

I made the reservation this morning because I just got my membership, etc, numbers yesterday.

Thanks for your help. I was just mainly concerned about what use year 2015 borrowed points would become if we ended up canceling one day of the reservation within the banking window. So I understand it will be treated as 2014 UY. I'm not planning to cancel or anything, but you never know what's going to be going on that far from now.

One last question. Is there any way to see more than just a specific date at a time. Or if you want to check on multiple dates and multiple resorts do you just have to do one at a time? (I don't need to right now, but it my head the website was going to be set up differently than it seems to be).

try playing with the resort availability tool. it's usually one of the links at the very bottom of the DVC website after you sign in.
