Banking/Borrowing Clarification

I think I know the answer to this, but I'm looking for clarification. If you bank and then borrow points, and then end up cancelling the reservation, the points from the cancelled trip stay in the use year that the trip was in, correct? They don't return to the year you borrowed them from.

I'm in the process of booking a trip near the end of my use year, which is tricky under any circumstance, but even more so now with the uncertainty of travel. I know the 50% borrowing rule has made points usage a little more challenging, so this might be a hypothetical question, but I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.

:thanks:

You are correct. The borrowed points would be returned to the use year of the cancelled vacation. They will expire at the end of that use year and will not be returned.

That said, for the time being, DVC is still returning borrowed points from a cancelled vacation to their original use year. No one knows when that practice will stop. It was a temporary change made to alleviate some of the glut of points from cancelled vacations due to the pandemic.

Thank you, that's exactly what I needed to know! I'm not counting on that courtesy being extended, so we'll have to try to plan accordingly and hope for no issues prior to the trip. Thanks again!
