So I am trying to figure out the rules for banking and borrowing. I know you are only allowed to borrow up to 50% of next years points. I will have an April use year- 190 points were banked from 2020 and expire on 4/1/22- I have another 190 points I will get 4/1/21 for total of 380 points. We are planning a big family trip next June- I want to bank 190 points from 4/1/21 to next year, I will have another 190 on 4/1/22 for total of 380 and I would like to borrow 50% off of 4/1/23 for 95 points for total of 475. My question is will I be able to use all 475 points when I try to book that trip 7 months out - so would be in December 21?? I am still learning so please bear with me. Thanks in advance.

If the trip is June 2022 your math seems correct pending borrowing rules stay the same. You will need to bank the '21 use year points into 22' before booking.

Right I get that, but what about being able to use the borrowed points from 23? Can I use them to book the trip in Dec. of 21?

It doesn't matter when you book, its all about when you travel. Your trip is in June 22 so you can borrow points from your 23 use year for travel in June of 22 because that is in your April 22 use year.

Great!! Thanks so very much. I appreciate the help. This helps me understand going forward. :)

June is not historically a busy month for DVC travel. But with that said, COVID has left a lot of points in the system, so I would make sure to book your home resort at 11 months out. Availability may be more iffy than it was before. You will probably be able to switch at 7 months for a June reservation but we are in new territory for the next few years, I think.

I guess there’s no whispers as to when this silly 50% borrowing rule is ending?

Nope. My guess is it won’t be until 2022, especially now that they are giving international owners a chance to extend points until May 2022.
