Banking and borrowing

New to DVC and so need to get to grips with banking and borrowing. Hoping the experts out there can help me out.

I think I read somewhere that when you buy a resale you cannot borrow points.

The contract we have bought does not have any points available for 2015. The UY is Feruary, so I am assuming the ealiest we can book a break for would be 1st of February 2016, is this correct?

Is there a thread here that will explain banking and borrowing points, as I believe there are deadlines?

totally wrong.

but a few "guides" have been known to shade the truth to make resale look bad.

banking and borrowing are final transactions.

you can bank within the first 8 months of your UY.

you can borrow at any time but you only borrow when you need to complete a reservation.

if you have feb 2016 UY pts, you can book stays that fall within the period of feb 1, 2015 to jan 31, 2016 by borrowing those pts.

you could have booked feb 1, 2015 by borrowing feb 2016 UY pts as early as march 1, 2014 for your home resort.

whenever you book a stay, start by looking at what UY the stay falls into. then understand that you can use current UY pts (based on the dates of the stay) + banked UY pts (if you have any left) + borrowed UY pts (if you need them).

And just to put a date to your banking window - if you ever have points to bank in the future the banking deadline for a Feb UY is Sept 30th.
