Banking and borrowing question. Help please!!!!

We are still pretty new to DVC. We are planning our vacation for next year and I am a bit confused. I hope I can explain my question.
OK, we have an October UY. We have borrowed 129 of our 160 from our 2009 UY, meaning in Oct. of this year, we will only have 31 points coming to us. Good so far. Now we are planning a Thanksgiving trip in 2010. This can be booked in Dec. 2009. The 2010 trip will cost 164 points. So, my question is, when I book this trip, will they use the 31 points remaining in 09 UY, or will we have to bank them into 2010, which would give us 191 points in '10 UY. I am so confused!!!! Hope someone can clarify this. Thanks.

The points would need to be banked into your Oct 2010 UY to be used for the Thanksgiving trip. The points need to be in the same UY as the trip to be used.

Yes, they need to be banked into 2010, but you can do that now and book your trip in December so the points will be ready for your use. Don't miss your banking deadline!

First, in determining points to be used and whether you need to bank or borrow, do the following: remove all thoughts from your mind about the date you will call to reserve. Focus only on date you will be at WDW. Thanksgiving 2010 is in your use year that begins Oct 2010. Your "current" use year points for that trip will be those issued Oct 2010. Any Oct 2009 points will be in the "prior" use year and thus need to be banked to use them for that trip.

Second, MS does not "automatically" bank any points when you call to reserve. You need to tell them to do it. So when you call in December 2009 for Thanksgiving 2010, first check on whether you can get the room size and time you want(highly likely), then before saying the words "reserve it," tell them you first want to bank your 2009 points and then when that is done reserve the room with the 09 and 10 points using all the banked points first. Note, you don't need to bank now or worry about the banking deadline. You have not even started the Oct 09 use year yet, have until May 31, 2010 to bank them, and banking them when you call in December to reserve is just fine.
