This morning my Credit Card Co. flagged our account because I was booking our ADRs. They closed our account withOUT 1st contacting us. They said their system saw multiple MANUAL authorizations for $0.

Unlike most Disers, I do NOT save our credit card info to our MDE dining.
I have memorized our info, & re-entered it for each & every ADR reserved. He said that our account was flagged for making our ADRs.
I assume their computer System cut us off. Then we got a generic voicemail.

But we had to tell the Security rep. EXACTLY what EVERY WDW transaction was( & we had NO other charges for months & months, prior!!).
We had to explain the charge for the Wishes Holiday Dessert Party during the MVMCP.
We had to explain the charge for the MVMCP itself, ALSO.

I also had to explain charges for Resort Room booking.

SO NOW we will ONLY use our Chse Disney Visa to book ANYthing Disney, period.

Have any of you EVER had a problem with the Disney Rewards Visa flagging you as " criminal " ,
AND closing your account via Computer, without EVEN asking you WHY you were booking Disney?!?!

I have worked for a top 5 Bank, with multi-million $ clients, YET this was most alarming & upsetting.
STILL shook UP.

I'm so sorry this happened. Take a deep breath. No, our credit union has never done this. We were called once when we had made multiple purchases to build 2 computers. Our account was frozen until I authorized the charges.

Just a few questions.

What do you mean, had to explain? Yes, I booked those restaurants or yes, on Tuesday at 4 we are eating at that particular restaurant? Yes, I booked that party, or it is a party at Disney and 4 of us are going, 2 adults/2 children?

And what do you mean that you were flagged as a criminal?

Actually, and this isn't what you want to hear, but I would be very glad my bank did what it did. Disney didn't do it - your bank has those controls in place. We've had our account flagged for the same thing (not from making an ADR) but because a transaction was going through for $1. We received a phone call about it, though and it was deemed that someone had our account number and this was a "test" to see if the number would go through. The bank was able to then stop the next transaction from going through so our account was OK after that.

So, it's something your bank put in to save their customers a lot of hassles and it's not something Disney had any control over. Your beef is with your bank

This was NOT a normal control. Their Computer CLOSED our account. Period.

They would REALly
NOT answer ANY questions.

They computer-generated a letter telling us that they closed our account, which may already be mailed TODAY.. Period.

They called ONLY AFTER closing our accountAnD generating a letter.

The voicemail said NOTHiNG about suspicious charges; NoTHING ABOUt that they had flagged our account;
NOTHiNG ABOUT that they had ALREADY CLOSED our account!!

We had to answer every question perfectly to get our account re-opened.

He ONLY told us AFTERwards THAT he re-opened it.
HENCE, being treated like a " criminal ".

There was NO apology. Period.
There was NO " we appreciate your business for the last 10 years; you are a valued customer!!"

IF I had NOT said WHAT exactly was charged FOR Disney Room & Disney Parties,
AND WHEN,
he would NOT have EVER re-opened our excellent Credit Account. E-V-E-R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked for one of the biggest Banks in the country. They did NOT close customers' accounts
BEHIND THEIR BACKS.

Close your acct & take your business elsewhere. Seriously. My bank 'lost' some of my money - long story.

I closed the acct I'd had for over 20 years, moved my mortgage when it came time to renegotiate terms as well as my retirement and kids' education investments.

It was a PITA moving direct payment & deposit, but in the end I did it because they *never* admitted they'd messed up. I don't have to deal with crappy service & I didn't.

This is a block put on by your bank or credit card company's card fraud services. Just google skimmers and card fraud, and you'll understand why this was done. The type of activity you were doing on a card with no activity was suspicious and is exactly the type of transactions criminals do to "test" cards before they slam them with thousands of dollars in charges. Internet purchases are increasingly the method many crooks use to steal, since chips have made it harder to create a clone card and use in stores. It is standard procedure to freeze (they didn't close your card) then call. They are trying to prevent unauthorized activity as quickly as possible. Yes, they make you verify the activity before they will unfreeze the card. Again, they didn't close your account. If you were unable to verify a transaction, they would have cancelled that card and issued a new one with a different number. No different than if you had called to report a card lost or stolen. Yes, it was an minor inconvenience, but it was in your best interest. Oh, and they can't leave messages with specific information regarding why they are calling due to privacy laws.

Thank you VERY much @Madame.
We have already decided to NEVER use that Bank card AGAIN.

Thankfully, they are not either of our wonderful local banks.
SO we do not have to take our other Banking business elsewhere .

We no longer trust them.
SO we will pay it off AND close the credit card.

You don't use your card for months and then have multiple charges for zero dollars in one morning, it's suspicious activity. Freezing your card is what should happen or it can cost the bank and you a time, money and headaches. Instead you had a few minute phone conversation to verify that yes you made the charges and the card was unfrozen. If it was fraud charges you would be on here blasting Disney and the credit card company for letting them through. We had a card get frozen from the time we checked into the airport to when we landed. I cleared it up on the ride to the hotel and a new card was overnighted to me. I'm glad they did it because I didn't want issues with credit limits during our trip or unraveling the mess after

The credit card company is just doing a CYA, covering themselves, but it's still very annoying and a huge inconvenience to you. I have heard of one other person that this happened to. You might want to keep multiple cards handy next time. I have not had this happen to me, but I do have my Disney Visa saved to that account. I usually don't have CC saved to accounts, but I did it for this one to save time, especially when booking critical things, and because it's a Disney Visa anyway. Sorry you had to deal with this. It's such a huge inconvenience.

I'm not sure why you are shook up. Your activity looked suspicious, so they closed the account. Better that then if your account had been hacked and they left it open. That just happened to my father, and he had to argue with his bank about why he wasn't notified that someone in Florida was making purchases when he lives in Michigan. They could have cleaned him out and his bank was like, so??????

I did 50 some ADRs last year with the same credit card, after not charging for months.
They didn't block it! So WHY NOW?! And they refused to answer.
AND we had NO show charges go thru last Nov./Dec.

The resort Reservation should SHOW as resort reservation WITH the dates, SO NO one stole my card IN FL!!
The Party charges are ADVANCE purchases--not from someone IN FL.

I was told that making the ADRs were NOT OK.
The issue is NOT resolved.

They will block me AGAIN for the multiple $0 ADR charges.
That is NOT resolution!!

IF everyone got there Card cancelled for booking a Disney vacation,
there would be NO guests!!

They blocked it because you made multiple charges, not because you booked a trip. The small amounts draw attention because smart crooks will try and pass a small amount first, to see if the credit card number works, before they go on to bigger numbers.

You are getting mad because you card company thought there was fraudulent activity and stopped it. Can you not see how silly that seems?

Plus, the cost of MVMCP tickets and dessert party tickets are somewhat big purchases. So much identity theft is happening today that the credit card companies are trying to be diligent about protecting their customers.

So use a different card and move on.

You don't like how they do business and that's fine. It's not worth all this strange hoopla.

Regrettable that you consider proving you're the legitimate cardholder making authorized charges, being treated like a criminal. If you keep the card, notify the bank before you make similar charges in the future.

And please, stop YELLING!

No matter

Entirely different situation. The OP's bank didn't lose any of her money, and didn't provide lousy service.

So sorry this occurred... Also glad we do NOT have your bank :).
Rather than slamming a current bank (whoever they are) - I'll just suggest a couple of groups that I KNOW work well:

Disney Visa (Chase).
Capitol 1.

BOTH offer 1% cash back - but with different restrictions. BOTH are pretty much WONDERFUL in terms of PRACTICAL, and VERY SOUND Security Monitoring. Each one has saved me from a problem, yet never CAUSED a problem. You see, I GET Security: before I retired? I did this. For a Fortune 500. REAL Security is not "panic and cancel everything". REAL security is "maybe we should contact this guy, via the channels he has already established, and have a conversation :)".

We also have a Credit Union Account. We USED to get our CC through them. In OUR case? We realized that this was just a bad idea. Our PERSONAL observation was that Credit Unions contracted this service with LOSERS. LOSERS with bad websites, poor performance..... you get the idea.

To boot? We wanted our MONEY isolated from any CC Provider. No "automated-I-will-DRAIN-you" garbage. Hence, just for US - we separated our CC and Credit Union activity.

None of this is actually my business.... ALL is a basic suggestion: Cancel the offending card, get a GOOD CC provider with a track record.

ALL personal opinion.... I'm not right, no one else is wrong....

Her card was the Disney chase visa ;)
After all the breaches of security in the past year, with major retailers and credit cards, most card are tightening things. All ours moved to chip cards. Some retailers are requiring Id with purchases. Of course credit cards want to prevent fraud, they pay for it if it happens. I'm sorry the op is over reacting to something that happens to thousands of people a day. They froze her card. As they should when a card that is not used for months suddenly has several low or no dollar charges and some higher dollar charges. The op could recognize this and move on and then next time call the credit card company in advance of making charges like this and let them know. They still may flag them but it makes it easier and quicker to prove you made the charges.
