Bank, Borrow, how much?

Hi,

I just read this in another post, so I decided to make an open question to make sure it is posible....

I want to know for example if I can bank my 2009 points for use it in 2010 and at the same time I can borrow my 2011 points for use all of them (three years points) in 2010. Is that posible?

Also know if on the third year (2010) I will not need to borrow all the points for the middle year (2009) can I only borrow a small amount and bank the others for the next year (the fourth 2011)???

Keep in mind all points use in based on the date of stay and which use year those dates fall into. If your stay is in your 2010 use year dates, then you can use banked 2009, current 2010 and borrow 2011. You only need to borrow as many 2011 points as you need to complete the reservation. The rest remain current year and can be banked.

DebbieB I'm now confused I thought that I could only bank or borrow & not do both? From your post,for example on a Dec UY,for a 2010 trip - bank 2009,use the 2010 UY & borrow from the 2011 UY?

You can do both in one reservation. That's how you can use up to 3 years worth of points.

Yep, it's done all the time. That's what those of us with small add-ons at a second or third resort have to do when we use those add-ons. We have 69 points at AKV. We bank one year into the next, and in that middle year use the banked points from the previous year as well as borrowed points from the next year to maximize use of that small contract. Basically it means that every third year we have 207 points at our disposal.

Thanks all for clearing that up,I may need to re-jig purchase of points,we had been looking at 170-175 (we go roughly every 2-3 years for 3 weeks at a time) so that would have given us plenty of options season wise.Now being able to use 3 years worth of points means that we could get away with buying less!

I agree with you!!! and I think that is what I will do instead buying 250 points I will buy from 160 to 200 points. I will do it because as I have read in some more other comments, a DVC member should buy points only for their Disney-Properties use, instead of looking for vacation to all the over 500 destinations (non-Disney).
