Bank and Borrow Points for Vacation

Help! UY always confuses me...we have an August UY. We would like to take a big vacation in June 2016 . This is my plan...will it work??? Bank 2015 pts, use 2016 pts and borrow 2017 pts for a June 2016 travel date (booking at the 7 month mark). Am I incorrect that this it what will work? Thank you so very much for your help!

Nope.

A June 2016 reservation is in your 2015 use year (8/1/15-7/31/16). You'll need to bank your 2014 points and borrow from your 2016 allocation with your 2015 current year points.

Bummer...I figured I was doing something wrong! So let me ask this, we purchased a second resort a few months back, could I combine the points, say use both 2015 PTS and borrow 2016 PTS from one? Still getting used to 2! TIA

Depends. Are they the same resort? Are they the same member contract number (only different extensions like .0001 and .0002)? If they are not the same resort, but are the same UY and same contract, you can combine them at seven months out to make the reservation. You wouldn't need to borrow in this situation.

If they are different contracts (like two different member numbers and two different use years not Aug UY), you cannot transfer and then borrow the points. You can transfer and bank them, though. They have to be the same year (like 2014 or 2015).

They are two different UY, one is August the other December (never thought it would make a difference, guess I should've thought more about the different UY) and different resorts. Thanks for the info...may have to reconsider the trip date or leave some people home, lol. Thanks again!

You could use the Dec contract to make a separate reservation and ask them to be linked. We have a small Dec contract and a larger Sept contract. There are times when we need to use both and cannot borrow and use the Dec points. So we make two reservations and ask MS to link them. We still have to check out and back in, but we haven't had to move to a different room.

Now I just try to use one or the other. And maybe purchase up to 24 one time use points directly from DVC at $15 a point at seven months out if I am running a few short.

Yes you can transfer your current 2015 points from Dec UY into the Aug contract and use all Dec 2015, Aug 2015 points and borrow Aug 2016 points to complete your reservation. I see you said you would only have to borrow points from 1 contract.

Thanks for all the help, spoke with MS...easiest way for me to not get confused will be to book several nights with one contract and the remaining nights with the other then link the reservations (MS said we wouldn't change rooms if they link the reservations). Thanks again, I learn so much from Disboards!
