What are some of your favorite bands/artists that the mainstream has never heard of? I might just have to take a listen!

For me...I love Amanda Marshall. She is somewhat big in Canada but not really in the states at all. I absolutely love her. She has some serious pipes on her!

I used to listen to this band all the time but now I don't even know if they're still around.
Suspect Bill-It's a swing ska band that I idolized in high school.

Thats all I can think of now....my mind is all foggy from work related nonsense.

Ainhoa, she's a basque singer. She's known in Spain, had her first album is produced by Emilio Estefan.

so many to name from the local bar scene mostly cover bands

Bucket Hat Brigade- (made up of fireman) classic rock

Militant Momma's - Blues Counter (dixie chicks stuff)

Stapler- 50's and 60's rock

Great Big Sea! again, big in Canada not so big here in the States :)

I remember Great Big Sea from when I lived up there. They are quite good!

Mo, theyre my favourite band!!

they will be here next month and Im SO excited!!

there's a great up and coming blues band here called
the stolen staplers.

my co-worker's hubby is Jesse J the lead singer.

Widespread Panic is one of my favorite bands of all time, I've seen them in concert close to 50 times. They've been together around 20 years. They are from Athens, Georgia & they are great! They are currently taking 1 year off as they have toured practically non-stop for the last 20 years.

Ratso Rumplestien and the Sex Swings were a favorite of mine a few years ago. I wonder what ever happened to them?

Someone guessed his name and he dissapeared. ;)

Depends. I love the Monkees but most of my students don't know who they are. Heck before AI last night, half of them didn't know who Barry Manilow is!
I have a CD by Matthew Sweet, he is pretty good. I also really liked Squeeze but they were bigger in the UK. I also LOVE Off Kilter, but except for Disney boards no one knows who they are!
Robin M.

Great Big Sea has one of my favorite songs: The Night Pat Murphy Died. Since it's my name even the wife likes it;)

I have a few for you:

Marillion: Known best in the US for their 80's hit Kayleigh
Fish: Former lead singer of Marillion
Transatlantic: Progressive rock "supergroup" made up of members from Marilllion, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings and Dream Theater (all good bands in their own rights)
XTC: A British band that doesn't tour anymore due to the lead singer's fear of performing in public
Porcupine Tree: I just learned about them. Good, progessive rock.

I'm sure there's more...

One of my favorites is Koi :) No swearing in their music, oh maybe one word but you can't tell what it is. It's really cool Island Rock check it out

I like The Arrogant Worms.........they are sort of a comedy singing group....but boy can they sing.

They are Canadian and not really huge, you don't hear their stuff on the radio. But they have been around for a lot of years and have quite a fan following. They tour around and do concerts, in Canada, in parts of the US and they have been to Australia.

Didn't they originally sing "Dear God"?

As most of Pittsburgh can attest, The Clarks are huge here. I LOVE THEM!!! They sell out practically every show they have here. Fantastic. In fact, I think their last CD was the highest grossing opening for a local band or something. I know that in Pgh, they outsold Emineim on their collective opening day. Check them out for sure.
