Banana Allergy?

Hey folks!

Recently, I discovered that I have a moderate banana allergy. I've never much been a fan of the taste or the fruit itself, and never really ate it often, which would explain how I've managed to go eighteen years without anyone realizing it.

I figure it's an easy enough allergy to avoid and I'm a pretty simple eater, so I doubt any accommodations would ever have to be made for it. My family just started exploring Disney TS restaurants, so we don't really know if this is going to present an issue anywhere.

Is there any place I should make a note of this allergy or any place where it's especially pervasive? Any desserts or dishes I should avoid or see if modifications can be made to exempt banana?

TIA

From now on doublecheck any smoothies you order since they're popular as a thickening agent in them. My sister is now deadly allergic to her formerly favorite fruit and that's been the biggest problem for her.

And...you need to be aware of other allergies. Banana allergy is related to latex allergy, and there's a whole passle of foods connected to latex.

My aunt is allergic to avocado and banana. I've always despised unripe banana, and I might have a zucchini allergy (got tested, hated the doctors so I didn't go back, and have simply avoided it for nearly two years now) and they are connected. (Not just because some sliced raw zucchini feels to me like unripe banana, but it could be a link)

Just be aware.

My husband also has a moderate banana allergy. The only place we had it noted was at 'Ohana and they brought out a different desert for him. Everywhere else he simply avoided it on the menus, if we were unsure of an item we just asked and everyone we asked was more than accommodating.

If you are worried about it simply note it on each reservation and the chef will come out and discuss with you if there is anything on the menu you can't have :)

Always make note of it just in case. I can think of a few desserts and some dishes at Tusker House with plaintains that might be an issue, but yes it's otherwise pretty easy to avoid. Oh, Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe as well. My oldest was allergic to banana (among other things) during his first couple of trips to Disney but has since outgrown this allergy. If you are sensitive enough that cross contamination is a worry just ask about any fruit on buffets and that sort of thing as well. It really won't limit your options by much at all.

Do you know what the alternative dessert was? I'm not much of a dessert person, so if it's something I'm not a huge fan of I don't think it's absolutely necessary for me to have a dessert included with my meal if it's something I won't eat.

Thankfully, it's not bad to the point where cross-contamination is an issue. But it's good to hear that it won't be too limited-I don't eat plantains to begin with!

Oddly enough, I do have a latex allergy! But again, it's relatively mild.

My friend has RAW banana Allergy and we just asked for sauce on side at Ohana. I don't recall anywhere else she has had issues and 99% of time I forget to note allergy.

Don't be afraid to just list the allergy or mention it to your server. I have a ginger allergy, which is also not a typical allergy, and although I am really good at staying away from things that could have hidden ginger, I did mention it at Trader Sam's because I assumed most things could have ginger. The chef came out and told me what I COULD have and was incredibly friendly and helpful, wanting to make sure I didn't have a reaction (non-life threatening, I break out head to toe in hives) that would ruin my day. Disney is the one place that takes my allergy seriously instead of just saying "I don't think so" when I ask if something has ginger which is what usually happens when I ask about ginger at any other restaurant.
