We got an appointment at the Kennedy Krieger Institute to see Dr. George Capone regarding Kayla's Down syndrome/Autism. I was thinking about staying an extra day in Baltimore, but I don't know what there is to do there with the kids. I'll have Kayla (age 4) and my older DD who will be 7.

Any ideas? What's a good area to stay? My DH thinks all of Baltimore is like The Wire or Homicide :confused3 :rotfl2: so I told him I'm check around for "safe" areas. ;)

Inner harbor is one of the nicest areas. It is a good place to spend a half a day walking around and looking at the attractions. There are some nice hotels in that area but you have to do some hunting to get a good price. Just goggle Baltimore and inner harbor and you will get a lot of information and some discounts.

I second the suggestion to go to the Inner Harbor. We go there sometimes - especially to the science musuem and to the National Aquarium. The aquarium is beautiful but not cheap. The science museum is geared towards adults and kids.

There is a children's museum very close to the Inner Harbor that I've heard good things about called Port Discovery: http://www.portdiscovery.org/#home
Supposedly one of the best children's museums in the country.

The hotels around the Inner Harbor aren't cheap no doubt.

Well, we're staying at the Days Inn, Inner Harbor. It was the least expensive and that was $155 a night. :scared1: Fortunately we had enough credit card reward points to cover it for free. :thumbsup2 We were going to stay an extra night, but Thursday night (8/7) they wanted $300 a night! :scared1: :scared1: Is there a ballgame that night or something? Sheesh. So I won't get much sightseeing in between Kayla's 2 appointments. She has one in the morning and one in the afternoon on Wednesday. We won't be done until 3PM and most of the attractions close around 5PM :(

I am going to agree with the Inner Harbor, we have traveled to Hopkins several times from Nebraska and always enjoy going to the Inner Harbor and walking around, Phillips for the Premium Crab Cakes is a must! Did you ask the hotel if they had a hospital rate? We stayed at a Holiday Inn a few miles away and the rate was less than $100 a night.

The Inner Harbor has three attractions for children. All can be a bit pricey. They are the National Aquarium, Port Discovery, and the Science Museum. They are all located around the Inner Harbor within walking distance of each other. The National Aquarium does not allow strollers, but may make a allowance for Kayla, please check first. The others are stroller friendly.

Then National Aquarium has walls of fish, a dolphin show, Imex, and an exhibit from Australia. The Science museum has a planitarium and lots of hands on stuff. There is also a giant Borders near the Aquarium and many shops. Sometimes there are even street entertainers. We always have a great time there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for letting me know! I emailed them and they said they do make exceptions for special needs kids (stroller as wheelchair). I just need to let them know at stroller check that she has a disability and have to use the wheelchair path (can't go on the moving sidewalks obviously).

I wish we had more time to spend in Baltimore. It sounds like a fun place!
