DH has a symposium in Baltimore, MD. We will be staying in the Inner Harbor area and I was wondering what is there to do or what are the MUST DO's in the area.

Thanks!

I'd definitely plan on visiting the Aquarium there.

Thanks! Dh's organization has us visiting the aquarium followed by dinner one evening.

I'm going to be on my own during the day and I'm not really a shopper so I was wondering what else I can do. I want to take a picture of the Charm City Cakes building and I wanted to see Edgar Allen Poe's home but they say it's not safe on your own.

Any other suggestions?

DD and I really enjoyed the segway tour we took in Baltimore. If that's something that interests you, check out "Segs in the City", and I'd be glad to answer any questions about our experience.

Fort McHenry. You can take a water shuttle there from the Inner harbor.

I was there in November DH had a class for 2 days I was on my own during the day. First thing I did was go to the visitors center at the harbor. Then took a trolley tour with that I was able to get a look at everything then go back to what I wanted to explore further. I'd suggest starting with the tour.

Yes and be sure to see the movie in the visitors center before you go to the Fort... the moments at the end of the film are very moving...

plus you will learn what a "Rampart" is...

The Inner Harbor pavilions will keep you occupied for about a couple hours. IMHO, most of the places in the pavilions are mostly national chain stores. The Aquarium is worth 1 visit. But it's about $20 a person. The Science Museum is OK but not worth the $$. All in all Inner Harbor can occupy a full day.

If you can get to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum that may be nice if you like trains.http://www.borail.org/make-a-donation/index.shtml

Do the duck tour. I've always wanted to do one.

Duck tours in Balto has closed. Big Bummer. When we moved here that is one of the first things we did.

There are water taxis that can take you around to different areas. One price for the day. Pick up a map and it will list the stops, and what there is to do at each area.

There are other tours that include Poe's house, and gravesite. Just ask at your hotel.

Be sure to check out Fell's point. It is a lot of fun.

We are in Baltimore right now, and we will be here for a few more weeks. I started a thread on the Family link here. check it out. :thumbsup2

We were just at the Harbor this past weekend and it is so nice. There are ships that you can tour, but I was told it would be HOT! There are all kids of places to eat & shop. I didn't know it until we got back but there is a mall there. Go to the visitors center and get some information & maps. I was LOST until I did that.

We will be going back soon to go to the Aquarium. Also, there is a place calles Phillips there. I was told that it's a great place to eat crabs.

I was also told that it's pretty safe right there at the Harbor, but one wrong turn and you could be in trouble. Just be careful & have fun!!

Don't go to Phillips for crabs. Overpriced and over-rated, IMO, and any local that you talk to. Try Mo's instead. It is a very short walk from the harbor.

And OHHHHH the boats to tour would have been extremely miserable in this past weekend heat. We toured them on a cooler day, and they were quite warm.

This past weekend was way to hot to be down there. We were not there to long before we headed out. I just wanted to see what it was like and I could not believe how new looking everything was. I really liked it.

Thank's for the tip on Phillips! We will look into Mo's when we go. My FIL had been to Phillips and he really liked it, but he is not from here and may not know better. :rotfl2:

Someone else said to try the desserts at Vaccuro's, in or close to Little Italy. They say that it's a GREAT place. It's on my to do list.
