Baltimore BOT-Fest

Howdy everyone, just popping in to say hi. :wave2: Not much new here. I'm at work for the 3rd day this week, and second in a row for the first time in a month. Plan on going back to full time 5 days/week next week.

Cindy and Matt- I really hope you're enjoying your time with the Baby Bots!!!

Hi Chester and Dave :rolleyes1

Dave: Good to hear yo are getting back to work. I personally dont see why they wanted you off narcotics first. Picky, picky

Matt and Cindy: Congrats on getting the little guys home :cheer2:

Jodi and Howard: Have a great race in NYC

Not much new here. Still battling with a plantar wart on my foot that hurts way more than it should and has totally messed up my running gait (Dave, got any extra pills?). I went to the doctor and had him treat it which seemed to be working and I was actually pain free for about a week until the thing decided to make a vigorous comeback. I'm not sure what to do at this point because we have the National Half in 2 weeks and I can't seem to force myself back into a "normal running stride". There is not enough time for it to heal if I retreat it-- took a week before I could wt bear last time. Every run seems to hurt my knee and ankle on that side cause I know my foot is landing wrong but I can't stop doing it. Just glad I signed up for the half, not full. If you see someone hobbling through DC-- that would be me.

We've also been battling with my daughter's school-- she was diagnosed with dyslexia and the school is reluctant to help because her grades are actually good. She has an amazing memory and can memorize tons of stuff to compensate but her decoding and encoding skills are weak and she gets really frustrated. Apparently you need to be failing before they do anything. Kind of frustrating. Her teacher finally seems to "get it" after months of us emailing, so that is at least a bright point.

Yuck, I had one of those in college during lacrosse preseason and it took its sweet time leaving. Are you doing any at-home treatments? What really helped me was corn pads. I'd stick it on the wart and wrap it real good so it wouldn't come loose, and even though it felt weird while I was walking, once I got running I didn't feel the pad or the wart. Those made it bearable.

Thanks for the wart advice. I actually just constructed a new insert for my sneaker by cutting holes out of old shoe inserts so that part of my foot does not actually touch anything when I run. It has been ok to walk around in today, so I'll try a few miles tonight and see how it goes (insert fingers crossed smiley here)

Hi Everyone,

Dave: I'm glad you are able to get back to work.

Cindy and Matt: WISHing you sleep-full nights.

Jodi and Howard: Lots of luck to you this weekend.

Colleen: Good luck staying away from FB. I'd find hours more in my day if I could do that.

Jen: Sorry your foot is bothering you. I hope your shoe surgery helps.

We had gorgeous weather today and I was lucky enough to get out for a run. My legs just felt so tired. Not sure if my LR on Sunday just wiped me out or just having a bad run.

Have a good night everyone.
Cindy

Hey everyBOTy,

I kind of lost track of this thread the past few or so but follow everyone on FB...except those who gave up FB for lent.

Jodi & Howard - Great job today! Looks like you guys ran together for the first 10K and then Jodi must have just sprinted off and left Howard in the dust. I knew I should have bet on Jodi and took the points.

Matt & Cindy - Congrats again! I would imagine that running will be far from your minds this spring. The boys look adorable, especially in the St Patty's Day outfits.

Hello to everyone else.

I'm struggling to find free time in my life right now, hence the reason I am not here much anymore but I lurk when I can. Work has killed my running this year as this is the first year since I started racing in 2007 that I did not run a race in March. I do have an 11K April Fools Run scheduled on 4/3. Should be fun.

I did find time to run 8 miles today.

Lou

Colleen: Good luck staying away from FB. I'd find hours more in my day if I could do that.

Cindy

Ha Ha, Cindy, yeah, it was hard for a few days, but much better now. I occasionally wonder what's going on with everyone, but it's all good. I am proud of my DD, she is doing great too!

Cindy, how are the twins doing?

Jodi, what plans do you have for the summer?

Mathy, what's going on with your family this summer? How are the girls doing?

Dave, do you have your energy level back after your big break? How much longer do you need to wear your cast?

Hey CHester, when is Chet getting married? Is it this summer?

Lou, are you busy lining up new contracts? Hope work is going well!

Cam and Howard, hey friends! When do you leave for Barcelona?

Judy, Judy, Judy, how are things with you? I have to admit, I do miss your facebook posts. :)

Hi everyone! I'm with Lou, following activity on FB, but lurking here from time to time. Thanks to everyone who wished Jodi and I good luck this past weekend!

Matt & Cindy~ I am so happy for you both and welcome Callum and Gavin into the world. I loved seeing the photos on FB and the progress they (and you) have made since their birth. I'm looking forward to meeting them someday and introducing them to the "Squeezy Hug."

Colleen~ We fly to Barcelona on June 25 and return home from the trip on July 10. Cam has been really busy setting up tours, hotels for before and after the cruise on the Disney Magic, etc. Here is our basic itinerary:

Not sure if I'll get any running in, but I am assured of A LOT of walking! I may run while on board in the mornings (Deck 4).

Lou~ The NYC Half was a good race! It was my first run in a city of that size, Philadelphia just doesn't compare. Jodi's company was great, she helped get me to the start and we had some great opportunities to break bread and raise a glass or two during the weekend. She and I went out pretty fast, she was able to sustain it through the hills better than I could. I pushed it a lot to stick with her, but around 6.5-6.8 miles, she started to drift further ahead. Eventually I knew she was out of reach. I did run through some subsequent water stops and looked at the port-o-johns thinking she'd be making a Jodi-stop. But to no avail.

My time, 2:00:47 was good and I maintained a good overall pace (9:14) but I couldn't keep up with those stars and stripe compression shorts and 5 Fingers. I skipped most of the water stops to keep moving, but did stop for a couple of photos in Times Square and a few water stops. If I eliminated those, I would have finished under 2 hours, but still not as fast as Jodi.

Jen~ Feel better, hope you are ready and feeling well enough for the National Half.

Dave~ I'm glad you are back at work! Continue healing!

My next race is the Danbury (CT) Half Marathon on April 3. I'm running with Charlie. Judy and Cam (and hopefully Jodi and Bruce) will be running the 5K. I guess Jodi feels lucky and doesn't want to tempt fate and go head to head again so soon. :rolleyes1

After this race, I don't have anything planned as of now. I did sign up for the Baltimore Marathon on October 15 and the Disney Marathon in 2012.

I'll be back soon.

:grouphug:

Oh NO you didn't!!

Jodi and Howard: Congrats on the NYC Half :cool1::cool1::cool1: looks like you both had good races.

Jodi: I finally found a pair of 5's that fits. I'm so excite to really try them. I got the new Bilkas with laces-- the only ones that seem to fit my really wide foot. They are awesome! (as is REI's return policy for the ones that did not fit as well). After this weekend's half and another trip to the foot doctor I plan to really start running in them more seriously. How long did it take you to convert from sneakers to 5s?

Cindy and Matt: keep the FB photos coming, the boys are adorable!

I'm doing much better this week and feel like I may even be able to do ok at the National Half. I rigged up my sneakers to have a void under the bad spot on my foot and was able to do 8 miles without it hurting. The rest of my foot is still unhappy due to the strange gait I've been using to walk and run over the past few months, but this was a huge improvement, so I'm hoping I'm on the right road now.

Have any of you done the National Half? I know Mike has--- is the expo worth allotting time for? We are trying to get our logistics of the weekend down and figure out if we need to pull DD from school a little early to have some expo time.

Hey Everyone,

Cindy and Matt - A big congratulations on the boys! It's great that they are doing so well. I'm sure you're both having big fun now.

Howard and Jodi - Nice job in The Big City last weekend. I hope you had a great time.

Colleen - Texting now? I still don't know my cell phone number.

Lou - I guess too much work to run is better (in a way) than unemloyed lots of time.

Chester - Did you sneak a race in that I didn't hear about?

CindyLou - Boston's coming quick! I'm sure you will do great.

Jen - I didn't do it last year, but unless things have drastically changed I wouldn't plan more than 15-20 minutes (and that was walking SLOW). I wish we could come down and cheer you on but we are triple booked already. I hope the tootsie behaves for you and you have a good time.

AFM, not much runnin' going on here. I'd like to say it's because I've been too busy, but I've been busy before and managed to get the miles in. Just not much motivated. I guess I need to schedule a race to force myself to get out there. That's where the busy part is a bother. Not many free weekends and I'm too lazy to make something happen.

On the plus side, my shoes are lasting a lot longer! :thumbsup2

Hey CHester, when is Chet getting married? Is it this summer?

Colleen
Umm yeah well ohboy. That thing kinda of blew-up. They are still room mates - they just aren't engaged anymore. They now each have significant others and are all good friends. Kids!!!!!!

Chester - Did you sneak a race in that I didn't hear about?

Mike
Yeah, I snuck in the Sarasota Half Marathon. I went into it with very little training and no expectations. I met the easy goal I set for myself - so all was good. I haven't run in the 2 weeks since though because I've gotten busy with work again. I've got a Muddy Buddy race with Chet in a coouple of weeks and then Expedition Everest Challenge with Miranda a month later. Then all 3 of us are heading to the Georgia Warrior Dash May 25th. Cave Dad and Kids on the loose!

Eh, no biggie, better they find out now than later.

I am very excited because my YMCA just got in the Body Pump classes. They are SO awesome! I hope I can get off this winter layer I put on.:scared1: It was a hearty winter if you know what I mean. :rotfl: This was also the first winter in 6 years I didn't run a marathon. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Jodi do you already have your flights for EE and your tri? I looked at the fares for me and I just about fell over.

Good morning BOTs.

Anybody know how to treat a "tweaked" hip flexor while at work? It was in the 40s during my soccer game last night and my hip flexor tightened up at halftime. Right now I have an icy hot patch on it, but it hurts to walk anywhere :sad1:

Hey Bots! What up?

Working hard to develop my new non-profit. Ran into mega-road blocks, though, so I definitely need to seek legal help. Ugh. In the meantime, I'm working on a logo & website. And since I'm so artistic it's coming to very easily :rotfl2:...NOT. The name of the charity is Running For Rescues! What do you think?

Chester - So are you doing Hartford or Baltimore? Happy Birthday!!

Sara - You still out there? What cruise did you take last week?

BQ Cindy - Taper madness begins!! Are you excited to run this Boston thing again?

Mindy - How're the boys? They're SO cute. Is anyone sleeping? :scared1: How many miles did you get in this week? ;):)

Mathy - Will Baltimore work for you guys? 10/15/11

Howard - Ready to get your butt kicked again this Sunday in Danbury?

Cam - So great seeing you last week. Tell Jason & Simone I said hello! See you Sunday!

Lou - How was that tour yesterday in NYC? I was thinking of doing that. Any marathons for you this year?

Jen - How's that festering wart? You did great @ National!! Hope you got your $'s worth in beer! Was it good beer? or poop?

Colleen - I got RT airfare for my Tri weekend in Disney for $200. What did you get quoted????

Dave - Hope you're healing well. I'm so glad you're at least working again.

ParrotHead - I have no advice....I suck. Try Runners World online!

Judy - See you Sunday! Go adopt that footless dog!

I'm sure I forgot someone!

Jodi, awesome post!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Wait, Sara is on a cruise?? YOu can't help Lesley with her ailment..I can't either, hip flexors are tricky....I've had a nagging hip flexor for years. Who has a footless wart? Baltimore, NYC, babies, Danbury, Boston, wow, I need to get back on facebook soon!

Jodi, my flights were over 250 from NC!!

Jodi: I love the name of the non-profit. If I have any artistic inspiration I'll let you know. As for the 5's---- quiet is tough! I managed about 1/2 mile of "quiet running" before I felt my calves trying to explode and started to thud my feet down. Gotta work on that I suppose.

The National Half was fun. Not terribly organized. Parking was a nightmare both for packet pick up and for the race itself. There were maybe 3 mile markers on the half course-- mile 1, 5 and 10. The crowd support was pretty good and I had fun. Finished in 2:26:26 which considering my "usual" time is 2:25 is not too shabby. We had lots of fun the rest of the weekend visiting the zoo and Smithsonian with DD and our friends. My foot feels much better and I'm getting back to a more normal running gait which is good.

Next up... Williamsburg 1/2 on May 22
