My fair skinned DD wants a spray tan. This is better than getting sun exposure, but I know nothing about this. Can anyone fill me in??

I got one in December for the 1st time and I think it was $40 for an airbrush tan. The Mystic Tan was cheaper, but I have heard that they can be really streaky. I just looked and a Mystic is being offered for $9.95 on special here on certain days. They seem to run better specials in the winter than in summer. The airbrush lasted me about 4-5 days at most. Some areas did look a little odd to me (hands, feet), but I am super pale and refuse to go in the sun. They claim it can last 7-10 days, but I didn't see that and I used the tan extender lotion and did not go into a pool.

Where I live they are close to $40.. Claim to last a week to ten days and they do not reccomend swimming.. I was going to get one last year before we went to Disney in February, but did not after I saw you couldn't go in a pool...not that it was warm enough to on my trip anyways:rolleyes1

In my area spray tans cost $25-$30. Make sure that your DD showers and exfoliates well before the tan. DO NOT use any kind of lotion or soft body wash as this will interfere with the tan taking. After the first shower make sure to use one of the lotions with a little slef tanner in it. It will help prolong the tan and avoid the patchy look. A place that does the tan for you rather than a booth is always better too. Mine lasts anywhere from 7-14 days.

I agree. I used to get a spray tan done (not airbrushed, but not mystic either.) I can't remember the name of it, but I paid $30/month for unlimited spray tanning. The price wasn't bad, but I really had to go every 4 days or so, otherwise parts of it would start coming off, and I'd look really blotchy. This really stunk for vacations (the main reason I wanted it,) so I'm not sure if I'll do it again this summer or not.

Also, have them do a small spot where its not noticeable. Some people can react different to the stuff. Dh's ex-wife did it for her wedding and she had some sort of a weird reaction and turned orange! Although she's not my favorite person, I still felt bad for her.

I'd like to try one before vacation - will sunless tanners make a spray tan last the full 7 days? Also, can you swim?

I tried Mystic several times a few years ago. I did everything I was supposed to do (smoothed it out, exfoliated, etc etc) and still ended up looking like a brownish orange lizard. It was so bad that the people at the tanning shop gave me my money back.

I don't know about the airbrushing, but if I really want to get a tan now, I just go with a regular tanning bed. It's not good for you, so I seldom do it at all.

I cannot hear about spray tans without thinking about that scene on Friends where Ross got the spray tan. :lmao:

I use jergens natural glow and love it! Like other tanning you need to shower and exfoliate well before applying. You need to pay attention and apply all over so you don't have white patches. It is not that hard but I take my time. Takes about 15 minutes tops. I use the medium and apply it say on a monday evening. I then see how it looks and where i need to apply better. I then apply again on Tue night. By the 2nd application you are showing a tan :) I then skip a day and apply again on Thursday. The 3 applications is enough to look tan. Friends loved it on me! It really worked well. You need to apply it and then let it absorb and air dry-so I would put it on while in just my underwear then do something in my room or the bathroom for the 20 minutes or so.Don't sit down or it will make lines.I usually dressed in a loose nightshirt for bed within 20 minutes of applying.Try not to scratch yourself until a few hours later or it may show streaks.Do not apply much to your knees or on your elbows-I just very lightly did my knees. These areas get darker than the rest so use less if any there. The color lasts about 4 days but I bring the tube with me and just apply like a skin lotion while on vacation. If you apply it after your shower every other day you will have a nice brown tan :thumbsup2

let me know if you have any ???
sorry to hijack the spray tan thread but that i would throw this option out there :confused3

I use this product - Quick Tan by Body Drench. It's $15-20 and you an buy it at Sally Beauty Supply. You use it yourself (I stand in the shower to use, so I don't stain any linens. It dries quickly, smells pleasant (not at all like a fake tan smell) and it doesn't look at all orange... The first day I spray it on and then wash it off over 6 hours later. I've never had it transfer to any clothes. It looks like a tan with a little redness (very subtle) like you were actually in the sun, when you wash it off only the tan color stays. Your mileage may vary, but I'd say you can spray yourself at least 8 times head to toe with one can. Also, I recommend the use gloves when you apply it.

I got mystic tans last year and I think I paid $10/session. Sometimes the results were great, other times, the "tan" was streaky. It seemed like the spray nozzle got clogged and the spray sputtered out, creating streaks. But when it worked well (50% of the time), I was happy.

YourMaire, how long does the Quick tan last? Do you do it every day? I've tried the Jergens and I can't even notice any color with that - I like to be a nice golden brown!

My DD uses the Jergens Natural Glow, but this sounds intriguing...my question is, what about your face? She only tans her legs with the Jergens...
