This is probably a dumb question, and the answer is probably no, but I figure I would ask anyway.

Can you take balloons on airplanes? DD REALLY wants a balloon from DLR but we fly home the next day. I don't want to spend ~$10 for something she can't even have for 24 hours.

We have taken mylar balloons on airplanes. I don't know if a latex balloon would survive the pressurization of the cabin. I bet somebody else has tried though:goodvibes

Don't know about planes, but I would just get a mylar one. Then if they said it can't go, let the air out of it, fold it up, and hang it on the wall when you get home.

They will allow you to take one on the plane. My travel buddy is severely allergic to latex and balloons on the plane is one of her greatest fears, so from that standpoint, I would say you can, but please don't. There's no escaping the particles in the recirculated air of the plane cabin :( A Mylar one would be a great plan, though!

thanks all! Mylar is the plan anyway :) She loves the light up ones (we bought a Woody/Jessie one last year but left it behind not knowing if it could go on the plane!)

you can always take the air out of it then go to like Party city and have it refilled for $1

I work for an airline and no latex ones becuase of they pop they sound like a gunshot. Mylar is the best way to go and I would suggest letting the air out just because then you're not irritating anyone on the plane with the balloon in the way.

Have you considered checking with the airlines when you fly to DLR?

As others have mentioned, go with mylar, it may avoid a latex allergy for someone on the plane.

I asked here first to see if someone had first hand experience. Obviously if I didn't get an answer I would check with the airlines. That's the thing about this board, you can get so many good answers! :goodvibes

My niece wanted one of the Mylar balloons to take home as a gift, we were directed to guest services where they called a dept and they had a brand new one delivered to the counter (never inflated) and paid there. When we got home went to the Dollar Tree / Store and paid $1 to have it inflated.

Another time we had bought one inflated during our stay and just let the "air/helium" out, packed if and got it refilled back home.

Grocery Stores, Party Stores usually will re-fill for a low price.

We were told by Alaska Airlines that they did not allow inflated balloons. Neither Mylar or latex.

Could you buy one for her anyway and then if you can't take it you could "free" it or give it away?

We were at DLR earlier this year and I saw my DD13 looking wistfully at the balloons on our last day.

It turns out that each time we've been to Disneyland she's always wanted a balloon but as she's the type of kid that never asks for anything I had no idea she even wanted one.

I ended up surprising her with one. She carried it around for the rest of the day and enjoyed looking at it sitting in the corner of our hotel room that evening.

Before we checked out of the hotel the next morning she went off in search of a new owner for it. I think she ended up giving it to a little girl.

My kids took balloon animals home from a vacation. The flight attendant warned us that they may pop during the flight, but that was the only thing said about it.

This is what we did too. My 2 yr old really wanted one, so we bought it the first day and she kept it all week. At the end of the week, we found a little boy to "gift" it to. It seemed to make his day :)
