I love a good "inside joke".

James Michener is one of my favorite authors. I've read practiclaly everything he wrote. So it was with joy I discovered his 1982 novel, "Space". I'd never read it for some reason, and I'm reading it now.

the characters in the sotry spend a lot of time on the Space coast (gee, I wonder why?)

they stay at a motel called "Bali Hai." Michener explains it was named after a popular song.

"Bali Hai" is a song from the musical "South Pacific."

the musical was based on a book, "tales From the South Pacific,"
