BALCONY SMOKERS....and a few other things...just back from SSR..

Since we have a spectator now, I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents. If you smoke and want to complain about the rules, that's fine, but you're still expected to abide by them. It's kind of silly to think that we can break any rules that we don't like.

I understand that being a smoker is difficult in an increasingly non-smoking world, but you can't deny the fact that smoking pollutes the air. This is precisely why it's not allowed in so many places. As another poster suggested, if you want to smoke in your hotel room or on your balcony, stay at a hotel that allows you do do it.

I saw many people from my balcony smoking some who left cigs on the table outside and the only one I turned in was the one who was raining ashes on top of me as I tried to eat breakfast on my balcony. I am sorry this is why I was so upset, yes I was annoyed at the smell , but I draw the linre when ashes are falling on us.... and people do not even seem to care.

We were at the BC so I was on a full balcony and the one above us was a small one, fine stand out there, but have some sense not to drop ashes on people.

My husband smokes, but he does not smoke around me and he never smokes at disney, does not even bring cigarettes with him. Not saying that everyone should do that, but I am just saying that some people can do it.

I think they should go back to offering some smoking rooms/sections of resorts. Most resorts have several buildings, why not have 1 building in each be the smoking building.

As a Non-smoker, I don't want to sleep in a bed that smells like smoke or smell it coming from the balcony below me......BUT I also don't think that smokeres should have to hike half a mile in the rain or 95 degree heat to a DSA either.

I just think that having a smoking area in the resort would make it more pleasant for everyone.

Maybe the problem is that the smoking areas are too few and far between. I can understand why they made all rooms non-smoking. It must make it easier and cheaper to clean and maintain them. Not to mention, it makes the whole reservation system much simpler and probably more cost-effective. However, it sounds like they need to offer smokers more attractive alternatives to breaking the rules.

Disney needs one resort just for smokers.

Call it something funny like "stinky town" ( I need a better name, but that's the 1st thing that jumped into my mind) :scared:

Put man-made hills around it and let the smoke sit in the valley, hallways, restaurants, everywhere! Smokers won't even need to lite up....

DH and I just returned from SSR on Sunday, March 9th. We checked into our studio in Congress Park on Saturday, March 1st. We did have glasses and mugs, although I had to call to ask for dish soap and a sponge. A CM came to our door on the 2nd to replace the amenities list (in the kitchenette cabinet) with the updated list. Our glasses and mugs were never removed during our stay though. I guess I didn't realize that paper plates/bowls and plastic utensils weren't replenished on full cleaning and T&T days. I must have forgotten as we usually stay in a 1BR.

I was very surprised to find that our neighbors on BOTH sides of us smoked on their balconies. We called the front desk to report both of them and were told that "supervisors would be notified immediately and it would be handled". I don't know exactly what that was suppose to mean as I saw both neighbors smoking on the balconies during the rest of our stay. Whether they get slapped with the $250-$500 fine or not, I guess I will never know. It was very irritating though. Fortunately the breeze seemed to be in my favor most of the time so I could sit on my balcony without choking on their disgusting smoke. Don't know what one can do other than to report it as I didn't feel up to a confrontation with these people. Both parties were there the entire time that we were.

On a happier note, the studio overall was in good shape, we had a nice view of DTD, we had a DVD player in our studio, the weather was great despite all of the news about tornado warnings and all, we had great food and great service at all of the places that we ate....Whispering Canyon, Typhoon Tillys, The Fountain (at the Dolphin), Rainforest Cafe (Animal Kingdom), Trails End, ESPN Club, La Cantina (Mexico Pavilion), Artist Palette, Sci-Fi, Captains Grille (formerly Yachy Club Galley). Parks weren't too crowded and we had no dining reservations for the entire trip but never had to wait more than a couple of minutes.

We are looking forward to our next trip in November with both DDs and our soon to be (in August) DSIL. Thanks for reading.........:)

YUCK!!! I feel so bad for you. That can ruin any trip. It is terrible! We spend that much money on a balcony and can hardly enjoy it! YUCK, glad the wind is in your favor.
