Balcony or patio preference

We recently came back from a stay at the boardwalk villas in a 1 bedroom. We were on the first floor with a patio right in front of the quiet pool. I loved the first floor location and patio. In October, we are saying in a 2 bedroom and the kind Dis people have already told me we will have a balcony/patio. My question is what do you prefer ground level with a patio or a higher level with more of an overall view?

We are balcony people. We choose our resort with this in mind. We love a good view and we do sit on the balcony at night when we return to the room. Not that you can't have a good view with a patio but we prefer the balcony over the patio.:flower3:

Balcony, all the way!! We love the privacy of a balcony and the views. Not to mention that our kids can go out on the balcony and we dont have to worry about them taking off somewhere!!:)

Can you get this with a balcony?!?

Those ducks are really cute but my concern is the other kinds of critters that might slither in on the first floor patio  That is one reason I prefer a balcony

Balcony all the way. I love sitting on the balcony in the morning with a cup of coffee.

Looks like balcony wins! However NJRRK, we had ducks too at BWV and my DD 1-1/2 liked feeding them Pringles in the morning. shhhh, I know we aren't supposed to feed the birds, but they looked VERY hungry! I felt bad! Thanks everyone for your input!

I prefer a balcony, for the reason that I don't like the idea of no-legged critters slithering in.

I will take a patio 1st then a balcony 2nd. I love walking out from the patio to the pool or lobby...so easy to just run an errand quickly with out an elevator.

We used our patio at the Poly every day. The kids loved the ducks that would come around. It was so convienent to just walk out of it and head to the pool.

I liked having a balcony at AKL (no patio), as the pool views were spectacular.

I would not like a room with neither of those, the patio/balcony gives the adults space to hang out or have a drink while the kids are sleeping in the room.

This is one of the big reasons that we stay at Deluxe resorts at WDW, we want a balcony or patio and don't mind paying more for it.

I was thinking the same thing! I don't mind those cute ducklings standing on the patio.. but what if they are lizards? Frogs? or worse.. other critters that may slither right in the room. :scared: I prefer the balcony.. I can have a better viewing when I am up higher. :)

If you are on the first floor, you sometimes get other guests who have no qualms about taking your patio furniture to use at the pool or elsewhere because they need more chairs. Ask Sammie about that one.

Can you hear the floor above when you are 1st floor?

We thought the Poly was very quiet. We stayed in the Niue longhouse, 1st floor facing the GCH and pool. We did not hear any noise above or to the sides of us. There was enough room between our patio and anything else to keep us happy with a little privacy.

Another vote for a balcony. After walking by the quiet pool at the BW one morning and seeing all of the little lizards hanging around, I have visions of them getting into the room via the patio!

Those little lizards climb the walls.

They sure do! Thanks goodness snakes doesn't climb! :scared: I would hate to see them on the balcony! :scared1:

Snakes certainly do climb! We have black snakes in our neighborhood that love to slither along the top of our fence. Having a balcony vs. a patio will not save you from most of the Florida wildlife (although I haven't seen a deer on a balcony yet :)). Palmetto bugs fly, lizards and snakes climb, and the spiders go wherever they please.

As to the preference, I've stayed on every floor at BWV, and I prefer either the ground floor or the top floor (strange, I know). I found the ground floor to be extremely convenient for moving luggage and so I didn't have to use the elevators. I found the top floor to be very quiet and the views are great. The middle floors weren't bad, just not outstanding either, although I did have a room on lobby level once, which was convenient as well.

Ducks are cute until they crap all over the patio, also they carry diseases and are nuisance when people feed them and they come back when those people are gone and peck on the door and quack and wake you up. :sad2:

No first floors for us, and yes some people think they have access to use your furniture if they need more.
