Our waitlist for a BWV studio came through:banana: We have a Boardwalk view because standard view was not available. I was wondering about the balcony. They are not all the same right? I would like a large balcony, covered as it will be hot, but I don't want one that has the half wall across the front that blocks the view when sitting. Having the "best view" is not a priority and I'm not concerned about the distance from the elevators as I have read that there are several stairways. I enjoy sitting on the balcony in the morning while the rest of the family is still sleeping. So for a room request could I ask for my balcony preferences or should I just ask for an upper floor? Thanks.

I was just at the BWV's in May and had a 1 bedroom with a Boardwalk view. We loved it! When we got there we were told that there was only one room available and it was on the 2nd floor and had the half wall that you are concerned about. Well, we weren't too happy so they checked and said that they could move us the next day to the 4th floor but it would still have the half wall.

We decided to go see the 2nd floor room before we made our decision. As it turns out our 2nd floor room was a handicapped room so it was a little larger and the balcony was huge and covered. Even with it being on the 2nd floor our view was great and when sitting down I could see out over the wall a bit and it actually gave us a little bit more privacy. We decided to keep our room and really enjoyed it.

Good luck.

Meg,
Requesting upper floor is about all you can do. The few upper floor balcony walls are short with a half railing on top so not as obstructive as the second floor walls.
Sally,
You must have had 2049. We dislike the wall balconies but the size of that balcony and the fact that it is so sheltered from sun and rain AND it is close to the elevator kind of makes up for the inconvenience of the balcony wall. We have finally learned to roll with the punches when it comes to room assignment. We are grateful to be in any DVC room!

Sorry, I just noticed that I have these 2 posters names reversed! That's what I get for typing on a bus on my iPhone!

Do all the upper floor balcony's have the half wall? I'm 5 foot nuthin so half walls usually mean I'm staring at the wall if seated. :headache:

we were there a couple weeks ago and had a studio, boardwalk view: here are some pics:

we always request, and get, an upper floor (BW view - studio rooms x029 or x031) - until our trip last month.
while we were a bit disappointed initially, that all changed when we saw the balcony:cloud9:
it was HUGE!!!!! we could've fit quite few ppl, with tables and chairs out there. the view of illuminations wasn't as good as the 4th and 5th floors, but it was great actually seeing the BW activity so close.
the other drawback was the guest above us kept throwing garbage down .(yes, we saw him - both while we were on the balcony, and while we were walking on the BW and looked up at our room), which we had to keep cleaning up (once i mentioned it to the FD, it stopped).
using the stairwells was much easier also - a one flight climb was incredibly easy - the 4 and 5 flights can be very tiring.

i would definately consider requesting 2nd floor, there are so advantages to the rooms there :)
