Balance due at check in or check out?

I always thought on a room only reservation the balance was posted on the check out date. This time it was posted upon checking in.

Room only reservations need to be paid in full when you check in.

We have always paid in full for the room at check in. And then we put a credit card down so we can charge to the room during the trip. Those charges aren't posted to the card until check out.

My experience has always been, payment in-full due at check-in for room-only reservations. It's still better than package deals, where full payment for dining (if any), tickets and room has to be paid, at the latest, 45 days in advance.

This is definitely different from most other hotels. I've never been to a hotel before that required payment prior to the stay (except for some that required you to pay to get steeply discounted internet rate at an early date).
