Can anybody recommend some "different" Bahamian liquors to try/buy? Or even good Bahamian versions of the standards? We need to bring several gifts back and thought different bottles of liquor would be a good idea. Also, any particular liquor store to seek out?

Thanks in advance!

In Nassau I went to a liquor store (can't remember exactly where, there are alot of them...exit port, go right on the main drag, on the right hand side...about across the street from the Government Building), but they had the best flavored rums. They let me sample many different kinds (yes, I was barely able to find my way back to the ship :p ). The rum was very smooth and the flavors were pretty strong. Form what I can remember there was Vanilla, Pineapple, Coconut, Orange, Lime, Berry, and many others. It was really sweet. I imagine that you can find a variety of brands all over Nassau.

Hi Sweet Angel:wave2:
We brought back several different types of brew-Guavaberry, Cruzan rums, and local rums - liquors. We found almost an endless supply of different brands and flavors.. You will have no difficulty finding something:drinking1 Happy sailing.

We got Nassau Royal rum and it was rrreeaaallllllyyyy good :) It's cheap too, a nice bonus

I second the vote for the Nassau Royal..it is delicious. We also like the mango rum. We mixed it in with the punch from deck 9 and had some really good rum punch.

Nassau Royal was the only reason we left the ship while in Nassau. It is so sweet. But here's the catch, after buying it we found that in the duty free shop onboard the ship it was about $3-$6 cheaper than off the ship. So my advise is to check the ships prices beofre you buy them in port. And as DH pointed out if we had purchased them onboard we might have had a DCL bottle carrier. He is quickly becoming one of us!:teeth:

You can't open the bottle you buy duty free on the ship while on the ship, but you can drink anything you buy on an island to your heart's content. :)

Don't forget the customs import limits - 1 liter per person duty free. You'll have to declare any more than that.

So...theoretically you can buy liquor and drink it...and not declare it? Probably not a good practice, but...

Anywho...from the DCL site:

"Each Guest 21 and older is limited to 2 liters of alcohol, of which 1 liter must be produced in the Bahamas and Guests 18 and older are limited to 200 cigarettes and 100 cigars (excluding Cuban cigars). These limits are mandated by U.S. law and are subject to change."

Has this changed?
