Can anyone give me info on doing a Bahamas vacation on a budget? Our 15th is this spring and we are looking for a beach vacay. :beach: We can fly to Nassau pretty cheap on Spirit but would rather not stay there. Prefer a less commercial area with a pretty beach. I've heard that some of the out islands are accessible by ferry but I'm having a hard time finding which ones and how easy it is to actually get there. TIA.

I have never stayed or vacationed on the island but we did it buy doing a cruise. I enjoyed and my food was covered in the cost. At least you could do a few different island and do beach time at them with out having to stay. Just a thought to shoot at you.

Thanks. We did a family cruise last May. It was fun, but we're looking for something less crowded this time.

My parents used to vacation in Abaco, Bahamas and they loved it for the reason you are talking about. It wasn't very crowded and was beautiful. That has been awhile, so things might have changed. But honestly, I don't think so, because I don't hear a lot of people talking about it. You might want to check out what is available there.

When DH and I travel alone, we love more secluded beach vacations. What we've found through the years though is the more secluded the place is the higher the price. These types of places cater to people who are looking for less touristy destinations and, unfortunately, it comes at a price.

In the Bahamas we stayed at Pink Sands Resort (www.pinksandsresort.com) on Harbour Island and had a wonderful time. It was secluded, romantic, and definitely one of the best vacations we took. It definitely wasn't budget though!

Another great place, but further away, is Young Island off the coast of St. Vincent (www.youngisland.com). Its definitely one of our favorite places. The island is the resort and if you're not a guest you don't get on the island. I think the last time we went there, even with the airfare, it turned out to be less expensive than Pink Sands.

Good luck with your search!
