Hi all...i've never been to Universal/IOA so I'm trying be as informed as possible. I'm hearing that bags aren't allowed on rides but there are lockers available for free for one hour while you are riding. Is that right?

Is it back packs and large bags that aren't allowed or any kind of bag at all?

Are lockers located at each roller coaster?

Thanks in advance!!

the rides that require you to be hands free, provide free lockers.

some of the rides it is difficult to hang onto a bag, purse, etc.
any object in your hands that could fall onto the track, is not allowed.
thus the free lockers.

i have taken my back pack with me on some of the rides.
you can check the website for the rides that do have restrictions of no carry on bags.

if you do Dr Doom, you can leave the bags in the room where you are seated.
doors are locked and no one has access to that room and your belongings.

We haven't been to US in a long time and never with a child...so are there a lot of designated places to leave your strollers like at WDW? We usually leave our bag w/our stroller (no valuables) at WDW and just keep our money w/us on the rides. So I am just wondering if that will be an option for us at US?

yes it is an option.
where ever you have families, you will have strollers..

even if your bags are empty, i would put them under the stroller or in a bag tied at the handle.
people are weird all over.
who knows if someone would be noisy and check out your personal bags.
not that i have ever seen that happen, but i have seen it happen at disney.

Thanks so much for the information! Very much appreciated!!!!!! :goodvibes

This is the bag policy for each individual ride:

USF:
-Jimmy Neutron, The Simpsons--most bags can be put by your feet. Larger bags should be put off to the side, just outside the seats/car.
-Shrek, Twister, Disaster, Terminator, Jaws--you can have your bags by your feet, in your lap, whatever.
-Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy, Men in Black--no loose articles allowed. Free lockers are provided near the entrance. Lockers are free while you ride (ride wait time + 30 mins, usually)
-ET--keep bags with you, just make sure they do not interfere with the lapbar

IOA:
-Cat in the Hat, Spider-Man, JP River Adventure, Flight of the Hippogriff, Sky Trolley--take your bags with you, just make sure they do not interfere with the lapbar
-Doctor Doom--put bags either in the storage bins or on the floor=
-Caro-Seuss-el--bags can go with you or be placed on the floor near your "horse"
-One Fish Two Fish--bags can go with you, put them by your feet. They may get wet.
-Storm Force--small bags can go with you, larger bags should be put on the concrete floor (it won't move, the blue floor does)
-Dragon Challenge, Forbidden Journey, Hulk--no loose articles allowed. Free lockers are provided near the entrance. Lockers are free while you ride (ride wait + 30 usually)
-Ripsaw Falls--you can take bags with you, either by your feet, in an empty seat, or in your lap and over the lapbar. Bags will probably get wet, so OPTIONAL lockers ($3/hr) are available near the ride entrance.
-Popeye & Blutos--you can take bags with you. Place them in the large, plastic covered, storage compartment in the center of the barge. Bags will probably not get wet in here, as long as the compartment is closed. There are optional lockers ($3/hr) by the ride entrance, much like Ripsaw.

I think that's everything...

There are designated stroller parking areas near the entrance to every ride. If you're not sure, as the ride greeter and they'll tell you where stroller parking is.

There is another option on some rides as well. We visited for our first time last year and found out when we got to the lockers for Forbidden Journey that my camera knapsack was too large to fit. My wife asked a TM and they told her you can do a bag swap which is essentially the same thing as a child swap except one person stays behind with the bag (or bags). When the rest of the party finishes the person waiting can ride and even bring one of the others with them. I know we also did this with the Mummy ride. I can't recall if there are other rides we did this with. If you want to try this on a ride you can ask the TM at the ride entrance if this is an option.

I usually stay on property and try not to take a bag with me, but I've even been asked to put sunglasses and a small camera into a locker for the Hulk. Truthfully, I don't mind...rather safe than sorry.

I'm just NOT a fanny pack person (no judgment on those who are - it's just not my thing) so I was fretting a bit about having to wait for lockers if I took a bag. But it sounds like I might as well take one with me and be comfortable since I could run into the locker problem anyway. Is that a reasonable assumption? Thanks - this thread has been really helpful!

I am not a fanny pack person either, but on another thread I saw a convertible waist bag. I just need a small bag to carry my camera, phone and sun glasses so I decided to purchase it the other day.

It is an Kipling convertible waist bag. I bought mind on Amazon.

I've got the same one. It is great because you can just switch from bag to fanny pack when needed.
