I apologize if this is old news but this forum is new to me and I did attempt a search.

I'm going to IOA for the first time this summer :yay: and have been reading about having to put bags in lockers before some rides. Is there a size allowance or is it all bags?

I'll definitely need to bring some sort of bags to the park and I usually use a cross-body bag that sits on my hip. It isn't very big or bulky. Do you think I'll be required to put that in a locker?

Thanks!

Bags are not allowed on most of the attractions and those that forbid carryons provide free lockers...free for the duration of the ride.

About the only bag you can get away with is a fanny pack and it can not impede the restraints from closing. I don't know how big your bag is but if the strap crosses your body, you are probably going to have to use the lockers.

Drat. I was hoping to avoid that.

Thank you so much for the information!

Its really no big deal. The lockers are free, and easy to use. You just put your thumb on it and go. We always use the Dragon Challenge lockers for Potter and ride single rider. A lot less waiting.

No key for the lockers?

Other than fanny packs no bag is allowed on FJ. Even some of the larger fanny packs may not be allowed if they interfere with the restraints. I usually carry a small, flat, cross body, Vera Bradley mini hipster. This is the smaller 6"x8"x1/2", flat one, not the bigger one. Even it had to go in the lockers. Here is a picture:

When we were there in Oct I had a small Vera Bradley ID zip case on a lanyard around my neck. It was allowed, but they told me to either stuff it into my blouse or else it had to go in a pocket. Here is a picture of it:

When I was there in early Sept I heard a TM tell the lady in front of me to put her small wristlet in her pocket or else it had to go in a locker. However when we were there in Oct we saw a couple of ladies carry small wristlets on, so it may just depend on who is working that day.

No key for the lockers?
No, it's controlled via your fingerprint. Be sure to go to the computer screen to start, because if you put your stuff in an open locker, it'll lock after a few seconds, and no way to open it, because the system thinks the locker is empty. Also, don't mash your finger on the sensor, because it'll just be a dark blob and the computer won't identify it.

Am wondering if we should leave electronics like an ipad in the lockers inside a messenger bag.

Would you recommend?

I wouldn't recommend bringing an ipad at all. We went bagless & wore cargo shorts to carry our tickets, room keys, CC & some cash. Made life a LOT easier having no bags at all. Too much time is wasted at each ride for those that have to lock up their bags, IMO.

First timer to Universal here. Need more insight as to how the whole locker thing works.

Will it hold up the line? Is it difficult to get your stuff after ride? Are there enough lockers so that one is always available?

I have always carried the "park bag" for the four of us with camera, ponchos, etc. at disney without a problem. Sounds like I may be better off rethinking the bag at Universal.

Any opinions are appreciated, I know there's no right or wrong way, but if it's more hassle than at disney I will definitely pare down. TIA

I just came back from my first trip & was thrilled I read all the tips on this board. They don't allow bags on most rides & do have lockers to use free for the first 35 minutes IIRC but it does hold you up from riding. None of those things you mentioned are necessary to us & we wanted to maximize our time there.

We watched the weather, so no need for poncho's, plus there are plenty of places to duck for cover. Camera not necessary but used my BlackBerry for a few pics. Not the best quality but got what I was after. The lockers for FJ were a real cluster. It was great to stroll through the no bag line.

I'd just rethink what you really need vs. what you think you need & can do without. Makes park time much more efficient. Have fun!:goodvibes

No bag line?? I think this may be the kind of info I need to make up my mind. Do you split from regular line or what, this is all new to me.

::yes:: There is a separate line for those with bags. The locker area is small & was always jammed & this was at 0700. We were out of the WWOHP by 0830 every morning & moved on to the other rides with no wait due to FOTL access.

Thanks to all those with bags, it made my wait times shorter.:woohoo:

If you don't need it, leave it, then you can roam freely.:) I did bring a ziplock baggie for the cellphones when we went on the water rides. You will get drenched if you go on Bluto's Barge or whatever it's called.

Everyone is mentioning that bags are not allowed on "most" rides. Does this include rides like ET and other milder rides? We won't be doing any of the bigger roller coasters. We will do FJ andknow we'll need a locker there but at how many other rides will we need a locker? Is there a list somewhere that tells you which rides restrict bags?

TIA!

The attractions that do not allow loose articles are listed on the park maps. Here is a list...off the top of my head: Hulk, Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge, Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit, MIB and Revenge of the Mummy. These attractions offer free lockers for bag storage during the ride. All other attractions are OK.
