Bagging your own groceries rant

At a "bag your own store" you will find the prices much lower than at a "they bag it store". With the exception of large chains like Walmart.

I think if he offered to help and bagged any, than he went above and beyond the call of duty. I would NEVER expect them to help unless I was unable.

If you said "If you are not busy" when he offered, and then went to manager, that would be wrong.

It is his job to stand there until he has a customer. If they have two divided belts, and he helped until he had customers, the lines would never move.

My two cents.

i guess i just feel like how hard would it be if the cashier just instead of taking the item scanning it and placing it on the conveyor belt just turned to their side and placed it in a bag (i mean, they generally have one of those bagging places right next to them)? especially for items like cans or boxed goods. i can see why some of them wouldn't want to do that for say fruits and vegetables and eggs, which is fine by me.
Well, I suppose they could do that... IF the customers placed items on the conveyor belt only a few at a time, in the order in which the items should be bagged... :)

I put my grocery items on the belt in the same type of order. Usually it gets put together that way. On a good day. When the bagger asks paper or plastic, I say paper for everything except the cold stuff. That helps too.
That's surprising (in my opinion) since paper bags insulate the cold stuff better than plastic bags do. If it's a store that doesn't charge for bags, you might want to request paper-in-plastic.

cashiers are time don how fast they are scan items
so they cant ring and then place
many stores on.y bag in plastic now to you have to ask for paper
and we arent sup tp put the paper bags on top of the belts wehere customers will see them

I work for a grocery store where I live. When we have enough courtesy clerks then they will bag the order. If not, I bag it. I always set crushables off to the side. I always bag like items together. The only time I bag as I go is if I am working on express. Otherwise I wait until the back end of my checkstand is nearly full.

Checkers do get timed for scanning. So far I do not know of anyone on the front end dealing with CTS.

If a customer chooses to start bagging they do so and I help them. I also thank them for their help.

My only rant would be the customers who say to me " Don't you have any help?" I don't mind bagging. Plus I'm used to doing it so it is not a big deal. I bag they way I would want my order to be bagged.

I bag my own stuff when I am not working. I have so many of those plastic bags I have getting my stuff in paper.

When I go to a different store I don't expect the checker to help.

I should've elaborated. :)

I get the cold stuff put into plastic bags only so I can tell where they are! I have a "cold bag" from Sam's :) (LOVE it!!) and I deposit all of the plastic bags into my cold bag as soon as I get to my vehicle. The cold bag keeps things cold for up to 2 hours. It helps when I'm running errands and I don't want to stop at home right away.

Okay, seeing as I work at a Super Target and it seems like the whole world buys their groceries there AND I have to bag them, I say let him off easy. He obviously got distracted by another customer and probably just forgot that he had offered to bag your groceries. Now for me, I don't get a choice. I have to bag everyones groceries. And guess what? I hate it! It'd be one thing if I could go off and just bag it how I felt was right, but no I can't.

Would you like paper or plastic?
Do you want your milk in a bag?
Do you want this in a bag?
Do you want this in one of our big plastic bags?

It's so annoying and very frustrating when EVERYONE has such different preferences. -sigh- That's what makes me want to work in a regular grocery store where people are generally supposed to bag their own groceries. It might not seem like a big deal to you, but when I generally help probably 200 or more people a day, it becomes one.

This is my major shopping irritation!

Not only have our grocery stores decided that it is too much for them to pack our groceries, they now want us to check ourselves out, too! And I see so many people DOING it. If only people would insist on decent service - they'd get it!

I now have to drive to the next city to get them to check, bag, and put my stuff in the car.
