Baggage & two small children

We're going on the West Coast cruise next week, just myself, DS7 & DD3. I'm wondering about logistics, and when/how I will manage our bags by myself.

The carryon stuff is a non-issue - we won't take much, and the kids have wheeled bags that they happily wheel around. It's the checked baggage I'm concerned about.

Should I try to get everything in smaller bags that could hang off one large rolling bag, meaning that I could conceivably move everything myself quite a distance, or is that not necessary? Two large rolling bags would be easier to pack, but I don't want to have to ferry things around. Having not been on a cruise before, I don't know what the logistics are like.

I should say, my DH is dropping us off at the terminal in San Pedro, and will be picking us up at the end of the cruise.

Any suggestions?

There will be proters standing by at San Pedro to take the luggage, the same with leaving (grab the first one you see when leaving). It will be a breeze for you.

Have FUN!!

Are you on the august 13 magic?

The porters will help you "check" your luggage at the terminal and then next time you have to mess with it will be rolling it into your room from the hall and unpacking. I recommend taking two suitcases that will store inside each other and unpack into the storage in the room. Makes your week so much more fun.

Fyi, slightly smaller suitcases will store under the bed.

If your DH is dropping you off at port, you will probably only have to handle your luggage when pulling it from hall to your room and once again when pulling it out into the hall at the end. I also traveled w/2 kids and no DH (but he stayed home to work in our home state of WA) and had no problem (and we took the max amount of luggage...oops!). Porters are all over the port and very helpful!

Have fun!

Thanks all - very helpful. I was not looking forward to having to 'bring only what I can carry' - sounds like I don't have to.

Bridegirl - yes, august 13, I think I've seen you posting on that thread? Look forward to meeting you in person soon.

Your cruise docs will have yellow DCL luggage tags with your name and cabin number. Be sure to attach the tags to your luggage before you arrive at the port.
