While our upcoming cruise will be our third, this will be the first time we are flying in on DCL provided airfare, as well as going straight from the airport to the port. Can some of you veterans give me some confidence that when I check in my bags at my home airport, that they will end up outside my stateroom door on the ship?

Any suggestions as to where on my bags I should put my DCL tags? I know Disney is really good, but the cynic in me is a little hesitant that my bags will make it from Newark, NJ to the ship without my assistance. :teeth:

I have a bit of a different question relating to baggage transfers. If I don't take DCL bus and take a limo, how will the bags get to my stateroom. Do I have to take them with me while I sit at the port waiting to get on the ship?

mhb: there is a baggage check in at the DCL terminal for those folks coming by car or limo. Don't know much about it but know it exists. Your limo driver with probably be familiar with the process.

tdsryan, I've been reading trip reports since March and haven't seen anyone whose luggage completely disappeared. I have heard of several instances where one bag didn't make it but can't remember if it was DCL arranged airfare. They do this all the time so it's a pretty well ironed out process. The tags are made to easily wrap around handles so I would put them on the handle that's most likely to be used - probably the same one the airline puts their tag on.

I've seen several recommendations to pack so the loss of ONE bag won't totally mess up your trip. For DH and I, we had stuff for both of us in each bag instead of all of his in one and all of mine in the other like we do for car trips. Made me more comfortable checking the luggage.

we have cruised 3x (this will be our 4th) and used dcl transportation each time. our luggage made it from hartford to the ship without a hitch. the 1st 2 cruises were 3/4 land/sea and when disney misplaced one bag they were extremely helpful about locating it. it seems the tag fell off and the bag was left at the orlando airport. in any case we had it by 10 pm the night we checked in.

of course, on a 7 day you don't have the option of bring a lost bag to the ship so i would pack essentials in a carry-on.

this time (6/26) we are flying down friday night and i am told that the hyatt handles the dcl luggage.

If you arrive the day you embark you can use the Luggage Tags provided as part of your document package and the bags will magically appear at your stateroom door. At least this is what is supposed to happen. Everything gets taken care of from MCO to the Port by Disney. If you are arriving at a different time, day before etc., you must claim your bags and bring them to port with you. There is a white tent across the street that you leave your bags at and they will take them over for you and then have them to your room (hopefully) before dinner.

I would just put the tags right on the handle like any other tag. The baggage handlers know what to look for.
