Baggage question

When they say you can have one carry-on and one personal bag per person, is that also for kids too? If so I'm thinking we might would be able to get away with just one checked bag! If My hub and I and two of our daughters have a carry on That would hold most of it. Whats your experience?

The last two times we've flown Delta and all four of us had a carry on so we could check minimal baggage. I actually had my purse, a carry on, and a backpack with snacks and they didn't say anything to me either time.

It is indeed per ticketed person, so if your child has a seat it goes for them too!

Be careful how you pack though. Many people are going to flying with only carryons, so the overhead bins are usually full, and many times there are more bags for the bins than space. Those bags end up gate checked. So if you are among the last to board the plane that can be an issue.

Also, how old are your kids? Can you rely on them to get the carry on all the way to the plane or will you end up with everything? I have 3 young ones and never count on them for anything other than a light backback. Even so I usually end up with two of them slung over my shoulders (the bags, not the kids)

Unless there are fees involved and that's why you don't want to check more than one bag, I would check as much as possible. I hate having bags and stuff to keep track of on top of the kids and their carry on items so we prefer to check as much as we can while avoiding fees. We usually fly Delta and have the Delta AMEX which allows 1 bag per person free for anyone traveling on the same reservation as the cardholder.

As a PP mentioned, many people are trying to travel using only carry-ons now, so unless you board early the overhead bins are usually quite crowded. With Delta you are allowed a personal item and carry on for each ticketed person in your party, regardless if they are an adult or child. So if you want to travel that way, yes you can have a carry on for each traveler.

yes, kids get their own carry on allotment, as long as they are in a seat. Lap children do not get a carry on. My children have always carried their own backpacks and for Christmas this year they received their own roll aboards.
