Baggage Claim - How Long Does It Take For Bags to Come Up

I am making PS reservations for Lunch so I need to estimate travel from airport to hotel. The reason I ask is because on a recent trip to Nashville it took our bags 1 hour and 15 mins to come from baggage claim. Everyone was just standing around the spinning wheel waiting for bags. It was very frustrating. The only thing that made it better was the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center. Now that's a Hotel!!!!!

About 25-40 minutes, with 30 being about average.

I find it hits within ten minutes of my arrival at baggage claim.
It is pretty fast there.

It depends. Many times when I walk to baggage claim my suitcases are already there. Other times I have waited up to 20-30 mins.

MCO is fast compared to other airports.

Baggage seems to take about 30 minutes from when you land. As soon as the plane approaches the gate, baggage handlers begin unloading the plane even before the boarding door is open. Don't be in a manic rush to get to baggage claim. Calmy collect all your carry on belongings, stop by the restroom for the little ones (and the adults too) and by the time you make it down to baggage claim your bags should almost be there. Rent a smarte cart if you need one. I never understand why people make a mad dash to baggage claim, the bags are not teleported there.

I usually do the same thing at MCO - go to the bathroom, wait to get in a tram that you can get a forward seat for (totally a blast for wee ones and well worth the wait), and then by the time I get down there the lights begin to flash shortly thereafter. This process can be about 30 minutes from the time I step off the plane until I get my bags but it is usally a little shorter, but I would bet on 30 minutes to be safe. I just can't remember if 30 minutes is from plane disembarkment until I drive out the deck with my rental car or till I get my bags in hand. But either way you should definately leave a good 30 minutes to get out the door of the airport and on your way. Remember to put some cushion time in there for late arrival too.

Similar system here. Bathroom breaks, ride the tram. Then we split. I go down to do the car rental level and the rest of the family goes for the bags. Most of the time I have the rental all set and have to wait a few minutes for the family to show up with the bags.

The longest we've waited at MCO is 30 or 40 minutes, and the fastest was immediate...the bags were already coming out when we got down there. Average for us is about 15 to 20 minutes (we fly ATA and come in on the A side). Compared to Midway, where an hour seems to be the norm, I consider that downright speedy.

I never understood the mad dash to get off the plane. People are always pushing and shoving to deplane. Okay, maybe not pushing and shoving, but they're impatient! The captain hasn't even turned off the seatbelt light, and already bins are being opened.

My philosophy... hang back... call friends/family on my cell phone to let them know I arrived safely... I don't mind being one of the last off the plane, because I know my luggage usually won't be on the carousel when I get down there. By laying back, I minimize the wait time. :)

I don't push and shove, but, I cannot wait to get off the plane when it lands. Usually because I have to use the restroom ( I HATE the restrooms on the planes, guys need to learn to raise that seat and women need to clean up after themselves) or I really want to get outside and smoke. ;) BTW, I behave the same way when I reach my destination by car, the car stops, I am out the door.

I disagree about "dilly dallying". In September 2002, I flew into MCO. Plane landed, and my son and I were almost the last people off the plane, we then headed to the restroom. By the time, we reached the baggage claim area, the luggage was already being sent around. I waited and waited and waited. Turns out our bag was stolen! The police finally found it later that afternoon in a dumpster out back with just our underwear still left in it (boy, was I ever glad to see my underwear!!) MCO security even admitted they have a problem with stolen luggage at their airport. So now I've learned my lesson. When the plane lands, I am out of there and am one of the first ones to arrive at the baggage claim to make sure no one grabs my bag before I do!

i agree that i usually am only at baggage claim for 20-30 minutes waiting. i too have to run to the bathroom when i get off of the plane and some in my party usually want to run to the baggage claim (literally). my sister travels with us alot and she is very scared of someone taking her lugguage so she wants to get there fast but her bladder usually stops her at least for a few minutes! HA! HA! HA! if it were me, i would plan the max 30-45 minutes because sometimes they just have trouble getting the lugguage to you. better safe than sorry!

We only do carry-on's (2 adults) .....don't have to worry about lost luggage, stolen luggage, etc.

We are in are National rental car 10 minutes after getting off the plane, and on our way. Usually at OKW 35 minutes after plane lands.::yes::

I refuse to do carry on. If it cannot fit under the seat, I leave it with the skycap. I am on vacation, I am not a pack mule. :)
If I want to lug stuff, I will go camping (right about the time he** freezes over).
Besides, with security and rules getting tighter, there is little I could pack for with just carry ons.

On my last MCO trip, I waited my turn off the plane, (We exited orderly in rows. I was mid-plane.), immediately took the tram, which was there waiting, and went down the escalator to the claim area. My bag was just coming around when I got there. I'd say it took all of seven minutes.

Gail, ITA about carry on luggage.

I think all those that load all their stuff in the overheads slow it down for everybody. The plane starts to unload and then you get all those folks that are trying to get everything out of the overhead bins. Some can't reach their stuff, others are asking someone to get their suitcase down for them.

 Gail, you are too funny. I usually read this board for my own info, but to read your replies too.:)

Last time to WDW we did just carry-on. It really wasn't a problem. Well, at least not until the flight home!! We sat in the most forward row, 2. There is no overhead storage for that row. So, put our stuff in the bin over row 4. Figure I'm going right past there to disembark. Nope, they decided to have us use the front door!!! But, a nice man grabbed our two bags for us so we didn't have to go backwards, like salmon, swimming upstream.
But, that story aside....I have to say that the one time we flew PanAM out of Worcester Ma., they allowed no carry-on at all. It was about 2 months after 9/11. That flight boarded and took off in record time!!! My flights with Song have been close to that but not quite as quick. I have to agree with Gail...I hate feeling like a packmule. We'll probably be waiting at the baggage wheel of fortune this August as well.

OT, but I *so very* agree with you on camping, Gail. I've never understood people who do this on purpose!! :p

Add to that getting creamed in the head by someone's oversized, hence overweight bag which he had to swim upstread halfway down the plane to get. IMHO, get rid of the overheads (except for those in the bulkhead seats and for flight supplies), only allow stuff that fits under the seat and tell them they have baggage handlers to take care of your bags. It not only holds up boarding and deplaning, it hold up security, most especially when the person dragging the suitcase cannot lift it onto the belt (and asks me to do it for them, yeah, right I want to be in traction to lift your major appliance) and it has some forbidden item in it.
I use skycaps cause I don't want to be a pack mule, why ever would I want to lift your bag or grab it out of the overhead? Sit down like a good person and wait until the other people leave the plane.
