bag search

Usually doesn't take long although they make you unzip each little place and look inside. We usually have our bags open and ready to go when we get there. I did see a couple of people who had lots of sacks inside their backpack have to take everything out.

Went pretty quickly when I was there. I would suggest looking at the people in front of you before you get into that line. Look for people who only have one bag. One time I was stuck behind a family with 3 or 4 kids, and they all seemed to have a backpack and each one was checked. And of course they weren't in a hurry at all to open them up for the guard. I carried one small bag and carried next to nothing in it. A small camera and my money and room passes and park passes in a zippered pocket was just about it, so it took no time for them to look through it. Just have everything open and unzipped when you get there, and it runs much smoother.

I just came back from WDW, and it really wasn't bad. The worst part about the search is getting stuck behind people who had no idea a bag search was about to take place. I had a decent sized fanny pack w/ many pockets, so I just opened them up so the guard could peek at the ones he/she wanted to, and I was done in no time. My wife carried a small backpack, and she had no problems with that.

We were in WDW May 19-23rd, and on four out of 5 days had no problem. We had a zippers undone and bags open and ready (even trained the kids). All security checkers just looked inside, occassionally pushed something aside and that was it. One day at MK however, I ended up in the line of a checker, who for some reason didn't like me or my bag. All zippers were unzipped as usual, and I had no other zippered items inside the bag. He however insisted that he had to see the bottom of the bag, and I should take everything out. I naturally complied, and (sorry to the people behind me) took my time repacking it the way I had done it before I left the resort that morning (stuff I probably wouldn't need on bottom etc). It annoyed me, and was not consistent with the other 4 days. I know they are just trying to keep the parks safe, and I work in a federal building and would much rather have stuff checked than take the risk of anything happening, but this one checker just seemed to want to annoy me. Anyone else have this happen?

E&B's Mom, that was the norm for me - take almost everything out if not all so they could see the bottom. To speed it up had the zippers on the bag all open as I walked uo

Thanks for posting this thread. I have not been to WDW since security is tightened and have not thought about this or read about it anywhere on-line.

Would it be a good idea to zip lock everything or would those be pulled apart too?

I had several zip-lock bags in my pack, and never had to open them.

Probably all depends on which guard you get. You never seem to know what they are going to look for. I have had ones that just look inside and let you through. I had another who took his flashlight and moved stuff around inside. The less you carry, the less they have to look at.

We had one guard who was in a good mood...

He considered stopping up because we had a Scooby Doo backpack... but he let it slide.

I always wonder about the effectiveness of those searches, being it a fact the the worst attacks were performed without weapons but threatening others with box cutters, one attempt hid explosives in a sneaker and the anthrax was spread in mail envelopes when nothing seemed to bring heightened attention...

The searches seem to give a questionable sense of relief until you realize how slick real terrorists are...

I think that what you get is that the searches are just a little random which is actually good.

While 99% of the time you just breeze thru every now and then you get the detail search. So... if you are up to something you never know. This actually works pretty well.

I would NEVER be upset at a through search, I figure it is part of our life now. I am not upset at a mild one though either.

The other thing I think they are looking for is suspicious behavior.

CarolA, I agree, I can't be mad at a thorough search. While it seems like an inconvenience, it is only for our own protection. Yes, I always found myself in the line that looked like people had the fewest bags to be searched, but that is because I was in a hurry to get into the parks! I just wish everyone would cooperate. I saw one woman complaining the whole time and of course they searched her bags more carefully than any others, and of course for a longer period of time!
