Any suggestions on a good bag for a toddler (very tall 2 year old) to carry in the parks?

Before you think I'm an over-packer who has to force her 2-year-old into pack-muling :scared1: , DS has actually gotten so he gets quite upset if someone else tries to carry his "suitcase" so we've been letting him drag around an old empty backpack while I carry his diaper bag. :sad2: Not wanting someone to trip over this at WDW, I'm thinking it would make more sense to get him a little backpack that he could carry his snacks in, or something.

BTW, anyone else's kid do this? He has entered quite the "self-do-it" phase, which has my parents and my in-laws all trying desperately not to laugh, because apparently DH and I were the same way. <sigh>

I normally carry a regular or kids' size backpack with a few things for myself and my kids in it to the parks. But if your son wants to be independent, let him! I don't know about you, but I've been the family pack-horse since the kids birth, so if someone else wants to take a turn, I say have at it. I'd just get one of those mini-backpacks. Target has them I know (we keep one in our car as an extra diaper bag for quick trips.)

If he's 2 yrs old, you'll probably still carry an umbrella stroller or something of that sorts. If he decides he is not happy wearing it, those are so small, you can easily hook the straps around the stroller handles and no one will have to carry it around.
Hope that helps...

Our son got a cool little Cars backpack for his 2nd birthday. We're taking that as his carry on for the plane. It would be a great bag for a 2 yo for the parks. This one came from TJ Maxx or Marshall's, but I've seen something similar at KMart and WalMart! Good luck!

:rotfl2: Uh, yeah. This is pretty normal. Both my boys were very "I'm gonna do this myself". Needless to say, I lost count of how many times we went out in public with shirts and pants on backwards, shoes on the wrong feet, hair standing straight up....you get the point. It's a phaze. Enjoy it, because my oldest doesn't want to do anything himself anymore. Who knew the natural progression is independent to lazy in a span of 6 years!!

Thanks for the suggestions! He'd love a CARS one...I'll go check our Marshalls tomorrow. :)

Honestly, it's hard for me not to laugh at him, too...I told people back when he was under a year that he learned to talk just so that he could boss us around...and now I tell them that he has a large vocabulary just so he can be very specific when bossing us around!

Since he's only 2, how about those backpacks with the straps for the parents to hold onto? I'm not saying that you need to use it...maybe you can find one with a detachable strap. I'm just thinking that the backpack for those are made to fit a toddler's body, so you won't have to worry about a backpack slipping off your son's shoulders all day.

We have a little Stephen Joseph backpack that I got off E-bay. It is super cute and I got DS's name put on it.(they have lot's of designs) He is too little for a backpack now but it will be great for him to carry next year!

My DS4 uses a LLBean Jr size backpack. He started using it around the time he was 2. We let him cram it full of toys so that he has something to occupy him in airports or on planes or long car rides. If he feels like dragging some stuff to the park we just dump most of the stuff out and let him carry a lightened load. He's drug that thing around so much that the top handle has frayed off. I just ordered him a new one for kindergarten (shush don't tell him, it's a suprise). It was $19. I probablly could have complained about the first one ripping and gotten a new on for free since LLBean guarantes everything for life but I figured it wasn't worth it.

What about a fanny pack? They have them at Disney with the different characters. My kids use love them. I pack snacks and such in them.

Samsonite makes a line of luggage for kids called "Sammies" that we bought for my daughter that she loves. She's only 14 months and just loves carrying around the little backpack. We bought ours in a set at Costco for around $40.

I bought the child sized fanny packs for my kids. They are large enough to put a few small toys, a snack, and an autograph book in, but they are small enough to actually fit around their waste. When they get tired of having them on, I lengthen the strap and hang it over my shoulder like a bag. Works great for us!
