Bag Check! Ive had enough of it.

On the other hand, for all you know they have medical conditions that require a bunch of medications and/or equipment be carried with them. Not all medical conditions are visible.

equipment I can understand but I have stage 4 kidney disease which requires me to take 20 pills on average per day. They fit very snuggly in a ziplock bag which I keep in my pocket. And I highly doubt more than a small percentage of those carrying bags in are medical equipment. If people want to bring a bunch of stuff in with them, that is their right, but be aware that it will take longer for them to get in the park. It's not like it's a something they spring on you as you are walking in to the park. I just can't imagine trying to go on rides having to carry a bag with me.

Why would they do this? Do they check the people who don't have bags in some way?

When we went end of August, and brought the 100 degree heat with us, we were told this was the way it was. There is plenty of room in the area that separates DLP from CA, and loads of people working. They did look each of us up and down as well.
I went up to security and asked where the no bad line was and was told there is none, get in this line. We did, and had to wait. YES IT SUCKED. The lot of us who we noticed without stuff had to wait as well, and nobody looked happy.

Two weeks ago in WDW, I smiled and said hello to the guards at the no bag line and waltzed thru.

I was there this past weekend and had a bag with me everywhere I went. Went through bag check, never took more than a minute from getting in line to going through. I also competed in the Wine & Dine Half and can understand why they would check even the runners' bags. First of all, our bags we checked in weren't "checked." They are just transported from the start of the race to the end and wait for us to collect them...so it could be easy for a runner to put anything in there. The bag may be clear, but that doesn't mean you couldn't put something in there to conceal another item. And while a runner may not have anything on them while running, that doesn't mean they aren't able to get something post run. There were plenty of spectators outside of the Epcot after party who were either on their way into the party or simply not going at all...just waiting for their runners.

I don't know, I really don't consider it that much of a hassle. I have never waited more than a few minutes from start to finish when doing bag check so I really don't consider it a deal breaker.

I just got back yesterday and noticed the bag checks seemed more thorough.

I used to go bagless when I could find cargo shorts and cargo pants in my size but haven't been able to find them now that I'm larger so it's bag check for me.

The bag checks didn't bug me. It didn't take me much more than 10 minutes usually to go through them.

Am I the only one that hates bag checks more for principle than inconvenience? I am not a suspicious acting person and yet my personal belongings must be dug through by a stranger and they decide if I'm allowed in. I get it, their company their rules, but we have to admit that in the name of "safety" we've given up a lot of our privacy.

If we had been the ancient Athenians democracy never would taken hold, we would have surrendered in the name of safety and security (check out Mankind on History, really good!)

That ship sailed in 2001. Many people attending WDW had to fly to get there, so they already had their personal space more fully invaded just getting there.

For those worried about losing the plastic pouch on your lanyard, it happened to me once so ever since I take a plastic cable tie, loop it through the plastic hole on the pouch, through the little ring attached and then through the metal loop on the lanyard itself. Just cut off the excess and the only way that thing is coming off is if my head comes with it! So far, it's working very well.

Are they a nuisance when you are excited to get into the parks? Yes. Does it cause me stress? No.

My mom asked the security guy what they were checking for when we went to MNSSHP. He replied "Poisonous apples. Lots of witches and villains coming in tonight."

These kind of 'in character' answers are the best! :rotfl:

The Food & Wine Half ended in EPCOT, so I’m not following the OP logic of going through bag check. Unless the OP is talking about runners bag check.:confused3

Personally I do not agree with them. All they do is slow down how many are in line waiting at the turnstiles. I don't buy that they are eyeing you as they can do that at the turnstile line as well. Anyone can smuggle in anything they really wanted to. If there is a will, there is a way. I am not saying I want to see it happen, but it can. Sure, they are also looking for drugs & booze, and they are easily smuggled in just as strapping on a gun around your ankles covered by your pants. If anyone doubts this, they are in complete denial about society and the reality of what goes on in the real world. If someone is going to smuggle something in, they are not going to have it in their bag in full view... chances of that are very slim. More get in with things than one realizes. We will never know the amount as Disney doesn't want us to. They want us to think they are doing their job in security, when in fact, they are only showing us what is up ahead... lines, lines and more lines. It is a precursor to entering the parks...:lmao:

Bag check doesn't bother me. I've traveled to other places besides WDW, and it's not uncommon to have to go through a bag check. You go through bag check at most concerts too.

Unfortunately, there are wackos out there. As a consequence, the rest of us get inconvenienced. IMO, not something to get upset about.

And, I have seen a security guard find and confiscate a knife from an Epcot guest. Was it a weapon? Probably not, but why take a chance?

The three areas where I saw the tightest security were the liberty bell, the Washington monument and the USS Constitution.

I've never had to bring a bag and never will. Wallet goes in pocket, my Iphone is my camera and I'm all set. I have to laugh when I go there and see childless people carrying enough baggage that it looks like they are on their way to/from the airport.

That would be my Mum :thumbsup2 But, I can tell you why she does it, she is of a different generation. A generation that worked on the being prepared for all situations.

Do you have a headache? Mum has headache tablets.
Have you cut yourself? Its ok, Mum has band-aids, antibiotic cream
Tissue anyone? Mum has plenty
Ow, shoes are rubbing. Mum has moleskin.
Wow, I wasn't expecting it to rain! Yay! Mum has teeny tiny packages for everyone that when unfolded, are ponchos!
Ugh, sick of drinking plain water! Thats ok, Mum has sachets of water flavourings.
Nasty taste in my mouth and Disney doesn't sell gum. Mum has some!
Just eaten, need a toothpick. MUM!
Almost time for dinner but blood sugar level is dropping. Mum has a couple of packs of crackers & a tube of glucose tablets.
Pen isn't working. Mum has several.
Nothing better than a glow stick in MK at night. Mum has pack! YAY!

And thats along with her usual money purse, camera, cards & phone plus I'm sure she has other stuff that I don't know about :teeth:

Tightest security I have ever dealt with was the Vatican. That was crazy.
