Bag check--extra thorough!!!

Glad if they are actually checking closer now.
My last few trip it's was a complete joke and "just for show" check to give people a warm fuzzy feeling but nothing else.
There were a couple of times I walked through and they didn't even peek in some of the bags we had.

It would help so much if people didn't pack like they were going on a week long camping trip. Some people pack a ridiculous amount of stuff that they'll never need or touch on their park days.

This!

I choose to go bag less because I don't carry ridiculous amounts of stuff.

Some people are at the parks from early morning til late at night. Maybe they plan on storing some items in lockers.

Totally get it if you've got little ones. But I go from morning to night and go bagless, so it's possible. Though this December I plan on bringing a sweatshirt to store in a locker, for when it cools down at night.

Truth be told I don't mind either way what anyone else brings -- I just know I hate feeling weighted down. :) I carry as little as possible with me when I'm shopping, traveling, etc.

It's so much easier going solo. :thumbsup2

We go late August and we're always carrying around bags of flip flops and ponchos for that freak, heavy rain that comes out of nowhere.

I'm disappointed to hear that Disney is creating a mini-TSA security backup at the parks. It's irritating that everyone (mostly) is smart enough to recognize that it's all just for show, and yet Disney is investing more and more into putting on a production. Though I guess if there is one thing Disney can do well, it's showmanship. At least put Sheriff Pete out there directing people to lines or something. Nobody likes starting their day at the happiest place on earth going by guards reminding them that security is anticipating a massacre any day now.

We have always gone as 2 adults but because my husband is diabetic we need a backpack to carry monitors and insulin and supplies. We also go in December and need an extra layer in case it gets cold at night so we really do need to bring a few things. This will be our first year going with our 5 month old and now we will need more stuff. I just expect to be in the bag check line and have calculated it into my day and am glad Disney is taking the time to keep us safe.

I had a small shoulder bag I used in the parks - bag check was easy because I made sure all the pockets were unzipped before we even got to the bag check lines.

We went two weeks ago. We had a diaper bag back pack, a small food bag and a bag for our baby carrier. To keep things organized in the large book bag I use smaller wet bags/zip locks. They were through and looked through everything. I tried to have everything prepped, opened and on the top of our stroller as best we could.

It never took an extended period of time (1-3 minutes tops) for them to check all of our stuff. We have a one year old and an 8 year old and we'd go rope drop to close. We had essentials like ponchos, small umbrella, snacks, change of clothes, diapers, some small toys, camera and portable charger in the back pack inside individual bags.

Yes it takes a little longer but I am glad they are being more thorough. Yes, I know having things inside bags inside my bag seems like a pain but it helped immensely to keep me organized and not lose things as well as storing important stuff when it down poured.

It isn't just for show. It is to slow down the line so they can do some profiling, and eyeball everyone to see if anything looks suspicious.

2 weeks ago I was selected for the random metal detector screening at every park every time. No reason for it. I am a middle aged woman carrying just a small Vera Bradley hipster bag that was thoroughly searched by the security guards. Then the dreaded approach: "Ma'am, you've been randomly selected for extra screening measures. Please come through the metal detector". The first time I was like; Cool. They are being extra thorough but by the 5th time I got a complex and wondered what made me look so suspicious. I could only conclude it was because I am well endowed and they thought someone could be hiding in there. That was my best guess. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I was there last week and didn't see any bag checks at any of the parks more thorough than previous trips. I did see a lot of people (myself included) selected for random screening.

We were there the last week of Sept, there were security dogs at all the parks. At AK everyone had to go through the metal detector, the rest of the parks it was random.

Some people packed big backpacks like survivalists. I understand parents with young children having bigger bags with diapers, wipes, extra clothes, snacks, and those with medical conditions needing special supplies, food, etc. No problem. The worst offenders were adults with no children who appeared to pack nearly all of their belongings in bags with about a dozen compartments/pockets, each of which had to be opened and emptied.

I work for Smithsonian security and I see this every day. Folks with no kids and judging by conversation are locals, but they pack a rucksack like they're hiking in the Yukon, not having a afternoon out at the museum

When I see people with bags like that at our zoo, muses I'm whatever, I'm always fascinated with what's in there. I went bagless on our kid free weekend last spring and it was the most liberating feeling I've had in forever. Sad, I know... :)

This does seem to be all across the board as ton the security procedures. My group of 6 went to magic kingdom today with different security checks than most are saying. The bag check for my wife and mother was simply opening the main zipper and peeking inside. Did not take anything out or open any other pockets. Everyone in my group had to go through the metal detectors though. I wasn't really paying attention to other lines so not sure if that was for all guests.

I was at WDW a little over a week ago and 90% of the time, I was also selected for extra screening. Also a middle aged woman carrying a small cross body bag. Also well endowed. Well, in my dreams. :-) Suspect its just the metrics of profiling. No children? Solo guest? Yep. You get extra screening. It only took an extra 3 mins or so. Now just the reality of getting into the parks.

I always wonder who the genius was who thought that the design of the checkpoints was a good idea. The parks are pretty large and disperse crowds across a large area. You know where "bad guys" can find a huge group of tightly clustered people with few open escape routes? Security checkpoints.

I feel safer already.

I just got back from Europe. Bag Check takes on a whole new meaning in London and France....(museums, palaces, Disneyland Paris, Heathrow airport and the Eurostar Train). EVERYONE gets the enhanced screening, everywhere. It is a time eater for sure. I tried to keep most of my things in clear pouches or ziplocks.

I was glad of it as the current terror threat is higher over there and I felt very safe.

I have never complained about being checked at WDW and I now know that while thorough, Disney is much more efficient than a lot of places in the world.

Guess I need to up the clear baggies for Disney now as well.
Really? I got back from England on the second and the only place that checked our bags were the airport and the british museum would have but we didn't have one that day. No other tours, trains, etc did the entire time.

I tell my family it is part of the exprerience. If wee have to go through the medal detector I tel them it s the 1st ride we are going on.

I actually do feel safer knowing they are being do thorough.
