Which creates more of a target *outside* of security.
I understand your point, don't get me wrong. But the longer the lines get at those chokepoints, the *less* safe I feel going through them.
That said I also recognize that there is only so much that can be done. I refuse to live in fear or not go places because of what might happen.
Funny that you said this because when we were there in November, we woke up on Monday morning and went off to the MK. (we had been here already for 4 days). Got off the bus and hit a wall of people. I had no idea what was going on. I couldn't see up ahead of me and thought maybe an accident had happened. When we finally go up to the bag check area, the security folks stopped us and rerouted us down and around.
So now I am coming in where the monorail and boats let off.
Centered entrance, near the boat docks?
That's where everybody enters MK for bag check.
It can be seen lower-center on the photo below.
(Just above the #3.)

My husband wore cargo shorts last week. They asked him to step to the side and empty his pockets. YMMV.Well you've confirmed my suspicions. I just ordered cargo shorts for our upcoming trip - going to put everything in my pockets and no bag!!
or for the restrooms. That was our families running joke last week.Is there a tier 1 FP+ for bag check?
All I know is that if I get selected for a pat down I'm going to lean into the persons ear and gently whisper "be gentle its my first time"Now maybe it's just the airports I've been thru, but you aren't patted down(if at all) until you've gone thru the scanning things. Sounds like Disneys setup is a much lower level than the airport. It makes me feel ewww to think going to disney may mean a patdown. I hope there are more posts about this , if indeed is happening.
Yes to area 10 on the map. That had been the norm Thursday through Sunday and was still open on the Monday, until I got near there and then they started routing us all down and around. No bag entrance was even set up in the 10 area.

My family went on in and I stayed with the bag. As I am standing in the line, this other guy and I started talking about the thing you mentioned. That even though we appreciated the security, if someone wanted to cause some scare and harm, now was the time to do it. Out here in the open was a huge "herd" of people. It took almost 1 and 1/2 hours for me to get through. I agree with another person that said Disney has to add some more staff.
With the advent of the "random" choosing of guests to walk-through metal detectors, I don't see how they can use #10 as a bag-check entrance anymore.
But, things change all the time.
As I recall, the entrance security procedures were beefed up in Nov. of 2015.
That may have been what happened to you on that morning.
They began a new procedure.

It must be new security location. My most recent trip was a couple months ago and it wasn't open then (a busy time), nor has it been on my previous 15 trips. Not true. The side gate closer to the bus depot (which is used as additional exits late in the evening) is open on various occasions.
