Just got a phone call from a friend in north Mississippi on the outskirts of Memphis. She said that storms came through this morning and two roofs in her apartment complex are blown off. She said that she is hearing that there is a lot of damage in Memphis and a rumors of deaths. The power is out where she is and she has no idea how many people are without power.

Anyway if you are in this area stay safe!!

............................................well, four days later, after driving 115 miles, we found a generator. At least we didn't get killed, several people here did. I have never been in a storm so severe. It was scary. Sat in the closet with my DD and dogs, while 70+ winds came. Had water pouring down from the attic floor through the second floor light fixures, then thru the first floor ceiling's light fixtures. Whole downstairs area flooded, Chimney is partly destroyed, Shingles ripped off roof and several large trees down. But after getting out, Lots of places around here are much worse. DH was driving to work ( in a convertable!!) and almost didn't make it back home. It took him 3 hours and driving 50 miles away to find a way home that was passable.
They say we might get our power back sometime late next week. 75% of Memphis was with out power, now it's 45%.
It's getting warm here............picture a sweating smilie.
I had to throw out all our food, it went bad before we could get the generator. Insurance adjuster may make it by sometime next week.
When I want on the 'puter, I have to unplug the fridge, so I won't be here too often!
DH and I are supposed to leave for our Alaska vacation tomorrow.....

life ain't so fun right now :(

Did the crane fall or did they secure it? Thats all we heard about down here is there was a crane that was damaged and they had evacuated the area (Near Beale?) thinking it may fall!

My best friend lives in Horn Lake, MS. and they got power late the next day.

Ugghh we went through the Ice Storm here in 94 and power was out almost 2 weeks so I know exactly what you are going through. Glad everyone in your family was okay! Now go on your vacation and try your best to forget!!

Oh and our insurance did cover everything from our fridge that we lost in 3 separate ice storms!!

OH Yes! the ice storm of '94:D Everybody here is trying to decide which storm is worse! So far the power company says this one is... we went 7 days without power in that one. So far, of the 3 cranes hanging over Beale Street, 2 are secured, the other is still posing a hazard. The good news is that my oldest Dd just got her power back and so my youngest Dd and our dogs will go stay with her while we are gone. We will just shut this house down, won't it smell lovely when we get back;)
I'm just grateful to be alive... and going to Alaska tomorrow... Anchorage high temp Saturday 66!

I've had a house full of family; everybody lost power except us. But if only one could keep power, this was the best way, because I have more bed space and a bigger freezer for their stuff.

My mom was only without power for about 36 hours, but my daughter and her family just went home today. We have friends with limbs through roofs, etc. It's bad in a lot of the county.
