I just looked through this thread... :worried:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=718279 :sad2:

and am wondering about the ports we are going on on our upcoming Western cruise. Myself and one of my sons were planning on doing the stingray city run through Capt. Marvins in Grand Cayman and I see it gets cancelled often. In Cozumel they have construction in the middle of the main road. For Cozumel we were planning on taking a taxi to one of the beach/snorkel clubs.

Is it really that bad or is this just a bummer for people who like to shop? I am not trying to pick on the shoppers as I love a good value as well, just wondering.

I would not worry too much about doing Captain Marvin's on GC. We used them in August (before the hurricane) and had a great time. Since ships can't dock in GC, they use tenders (small boats) to get people to shore. If it is too windy, the tenders will not run. Normally the cruise ships will then try to find another port.

Also, stingray city is on a reef some distance from shore. If it is too windy or the sea is rough, this excursion can get cancelled. Too many people will get sick on the boat ride there and back. From what I have read, Captain Marvin's does generally sail, even when DCL cancels their excursion.

As for hurricane damage, CG is still recovering but most of the downtown area is now up and running as usual.

Don't worry about Cozumel. Sounds like you want to spend most of your time at the beach so traffic should not be a problem. Just allow extra time to get there and back!

For the 12/29/04 cruise, Capt Marvins was running, however DCL cancelled all their excursions. When we showed up at Capt Marvins, they suggested that children under 10 NOT go. It was windy, thus the water was choppy and even adults were having trouble standing on the sandbar. Same story for the snorkeling portion.

Despite the road construction in Cozumel, we went to Paradise Beach and had a nice time there . . . it was just the general pier and shopping area that was under construction.

Anyone know when the Cozumel construction is over with?

We were told that it had "been like that for 10 months" already . . . it didn't look like they were moving too quickly!

Well, the main road had at least 6 blocks worth of the lane next to the water completely torn up & diggers here & there. The sidewalks were also torn up with boards down to cover up the holes.

sorry crowley...

i just want to be prepared that plans might get messed up so it isn't such a shock if it happens...if you're as excited about his trip as i am...i know where you're comin from!!
