Bad parenting confessions

I'm not a lover of meatloaf, however, my kids liked it so my wife would cook it occasionally. My son (41 now) was 3 years old and we had meatloaf one night for dinner and my wife asked me how I liked it because she had used a new recipe. Well jokingly I said it tastes like poop (but used the s..t word). My MIL used to watch my children while we worked and she lived very close to my office, so I used to go over and see the kids for lunch. One day I walked in and asked how everything was going and my MIL said good except that my son had said that her pancakes tasted like poop (but also using s..t)!!! Good thing she was a good sport and just laughed it off

Well having 5 I could write a book. My 5 year old son wore his sisters skort backwards to kindergarten camp, I put it in the wrong room, didn’t notice until pickup. I send my 3rd grader to school everyday with a can of slim fast.

You know how some parents rush to the doctor with every sniffle? I’m not that parent. Took my high school aged daughter to urgent care after she was complaining of a sore throat and being tired for weeks, turns out it was mono, it cleared up a few days later. My son complained of a stomach ache one Friday and asked to be picked up from school. The next Friday he did the same, asking to go to the doctor. I told him I’d take him after school after I got his sister to work. It was soon apparent he needed medical attention. Unfortunately by the time he got to the ER (I started at urgent care and they said get him to a hospital) his appendix had already ruptured. You would think that me having appendicitis 6 months earlier would’ve tipped me off).
OMG, I have the same story. You made me feel so much better. DS was about 2 years old and complained of pain in his abdomen but being barely verbal, his description of the location of the pain kept changing. I took him out to run errands and he seemed to feel better after throwing up all over Lowes. Then he was feeling bad again. Some fever, lots of discomfort. By the time I took him to the pediatrician, he had a perforated appendix and the infection was so bad he was in the hospital for over a week.

This one's not me, my wife did it. Although I could certainly see doing it myself. My mother lives 4 hours away and my kids each spend a week with her during the summer. My wife drove two hours to meet up with my mother and handover the kid while I was out of state for work. Turns out she never gave my mother the suitcase with his clothes, only the backpack with his toys. My mom had to buy a whole new set of clothes for my son to have the week he was there.

My son was only in the hospital for 3 or 4 nights. Since he was young and healthy they gave him morphine and IV antibiotics and frequent blood tests. I was so confused. When he was discharged they told him to go to soccer practice, exercise helped move the gunk through his system. I must say his recovery was easier than my appendectomy (except for the initial 2 days, he was in so much pain).

YES!!!!! I told my kids I don't care as long as it's used in the proper context, not used to hurt anyone else and used in a setting where it won't get them in trouble.
Exactly. Read the room kid! The first time I heard one of them cuss properly was when I'd asked my then 4 yr old son to bring the empty trash can in from the end of the driveway (it's not far by any means) as he's stomping off toward the can I heard him mutter "this is bull-poop" but you know, the real word. I wasn't sure if I should laugh, because he wasn't wrong lol, or reprimand him for saying it. I turned away because I couldn't stop laughing and just pretended I didn't hear it. When he came back with the can I was like "thanks buddy! I know it sucks to have to do things like that when you'd rather be playing but sometimes we have to do not fun things. And if you are going to grump about it, you gotta be a little quieter next time dude."

My mom took me to see Tommy and All That Jazz in the theater. I would have been almost 10 for All That Jazz, and younger for Tommy. She just saw "musical" and thought why not? :rolleyes1

my mom liked movies that were not exactly age appropriate to take me to but she did so i saw 'the graduate' when i was about 6, 'harold and maude' when i was about 9 and many more that i don't recall until i watch them decades later and start to remember scenes and very adult dialogue.

I have found my people!!! When my oldest was little we went for all the sniffles I swear. Like at least once a month. By the time kid 2 was 2 or so, I started to be a little more, lets give it a day or two and see how they feel... So I got to daycare one day to pick them up and kid 2 was crying (he was 3.5). The teachers told me he was running around and stubbed his toe. So I'm thinking even if he broke it what are they gonna do? His toes are too little to even buddy tape, right? So the next day he seemed ok so I didn't worry about it. Then on day 3 he was crying when he walked on it. So off to the ER we go for xrays. 3 bones in the top of his foot broken. Of course the drs are side eyeing me so I got daycare to send video of the incident. This kid hurts himself so much... I'm thankful it almost always happens at school or somewhere else because I'm like dang, how many broken bones before they start really side eyeing me. All of this led to us spending 4 hours in the er recently for a really bad bruise bc now I take no chances lol.

In my most sleep-deprived new parent time, I did once slog it all the way to the office in stop-and-go traffic, only to discover that I had, in fact, not dropped off the kid at daycare. Woops - I turned back around and drove all the way back and dropped him off. At least I was in the know enough to use the carpool lane on the way back.
