Bad Meal at Turf Club

I believe we had Rudy as our server, as well. GREAT guy, cannot say enough about him.

Perhaps that is the key....request Rudy. ;)

I agree, Rudy was great!:thumbsup2

We took a girls trip in March and of the 4 ladies, 3 were first timers.

We did the DDP and of all our meals, they all enjoyed Turf Club the best. So much so that we cancelled WPC to dine at Turf a second time. We also had a coveted Le Cellier reservation, but the service was slow and the food was so so and they thought that was the worst meal of the trip.

I've also had horrible service and so so food at Ohana twice now in the last year.

We tried to get ADRs for Turf Club for NYE this year, but it has been booked solid for months. I think all the WDW restaurants are capable of not being their best at times. The dynamics are definitely there and it is easier to have a bad night than a good one, just by changing a few variables.

If I listened to all the reviews on the Dis, I would have to cook every night (and I dont mind cooking) because there is not one place at WDW that has not had a HORRIBLE experience posted.

I would give it another try with the regular menu instead of a holiday meal. We were just there last night and had a really nice and tasty meal. There were 16 of us and we made reservations just yesterday morning. Our server was great and most of us ordered the sirloin or the stuffed chicken. My DS got the prime rib and there was a good amount of fat in it, but I think that is what you get with prime rib. Another person got the penne pasta and didn't care too much for it, but that was only because of his personal tastes.

Thanks everyone. I will try TC again. I have eaten there once before and had an OK meal. It just seems so much was off that night but it could have been the Thanksgiving rush.

I trust all of your opinions. By the way, I still love SSR and I think the food at Artist pallet is very good (expecially the pizza). I had such a nice trip. I love the look and feel of SSR (even though they still need a bridge to DTD)

I also ate there on Thanksgiving. Myself, DW and DD all had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner and were very happy with it. The turkey was very good and all the trimmings were equally good. I will admit the pie was cold, but that didn't stop me from eating DD's leftovers. I also sat outside and found it very relaxing (the seats were hard iron, but weren't that bad). As far as I'm concerned, the only negative we had was that we didn't have any leftovers for a turkey sandwich the next day.

Specialty drinks don't usually get refills unless you pay for them.

I don't think they ever planned for a TS restaurant at SSR, but added it after so many owners requested it. They had to find a place for it and used the lounge area for the restaurant. Most of the smaller restaurants only have limited menus as well.

I know we had Thanksgiving dinner at Olivia's once and it was horrible. But everything else we have eaten there was pretty good. Maybe the fact of trying to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal was a stretch for the Turf Club.

I agree with you about the Thanksgiving menu thing. There is a restaurant near my brother and sister-in-law that we love. It was their "turn" to host Thanksgiving this year. They took 12 of us to dinner and it was a special Thanksgiving menu-yuck is all I can say. The only thing really good was the desserts. Of course everyone was very polite and we ate the food since we didn't want my brother and SIL to feel bad. :)

I don't think it's surprising that Disney added the Turf Club. SSR is huge! I always thought is was crazy to only have a CS place there. I mean, the YC/BC has 3 full-service restaurants, and it seems way smaller than SSR.

We also just returned from SSR but did not eat at Turf Club this trip. We ate there in February. what we remember most is that the food was good (not exceptional) but service was extrememly slow, however our server was attentive and very apologetic about the wait time for our food and did not charge us for desert.

I've found on the occasions when I have had bad meals at my favorite restaurants it is usually on holidays or holiday week-ends when the regular chef is taking a holiday or vacation. :headache:
