Bad Luck? What's YOUR kryptonite?

[It's A Happy Day]

There are several things people claim to be bad luck....walking under a ladder, a black cat crossing your path, spilling salt, not passing on that chain letter, etc. What are your bad luck superstitions?

I will toss spilled salt over my shoulder. Not sure why, but I do. And I won't walk under a ladder but it's more a fear of something falling on me than thinking it's bad luck - but I guess if something fell on me then it would be bad luck, right?

DH is convinced that every time he hears Betty Davis Eyes something bad will happen

With me it's opening an umbrella inside. I'm not superstitious but my grandmother was horribly so. I opened an umbrella in the house at the age of 5 and you'd have thought I had just been playing with a gun or something.

She traumatized me and taught me that really bad things happen when you open one in the house--mainly that Nana comes unglued. She's been dead for years but neither of my sisters or I can do it.

True Story:

In high school, I was driving a friend home. On the way there, 3 different black cats crossed my car's path - on 3 different streets.

Freaked me out a little, but we joked about the doom that was coming our way.

2 days later - my boyfriend's brother was suddenly hit by a tractor trailer and died. He was 19.

I still get a little weirded out by black cats crossing in front of me.

I've never been superstitious. Sometimes I will toss salt over my shoulder while cooking, but just because it feels cool. I pretty much refuse to go anywhere without a certain necklace, but I think it's more of an attachment thing than a good luck/bad luck thing.
