Bad idea to give Christmas themed gift for Christmas?

Is it ok to give a Christmas themed decoration as a holiday gift (ornament, wreath, wall hanging) even though the person won't be able to use the gift until the next Christmas season?

I found a Christmas item that I think a friend might like, but I can't decide if it's a bad idea to give a gift that the person can't use for nearly a year.

Unless you don't plan on giving it until Jan 15th they will probably be able to still use it this year. In my family we often give each other Christmas stuff for Christmas. My Sister has one of the Lenox nativities and for several years I would buy her a new piece for it and she never got that until Christmas. (unfortunately they retired the set-cause that was easy to shop for!) If you know she would like it I would get it for her.

We always give ornaments to each other sometime after Thanksgiving. If there is not a strong reason to wait until Christmas, I'd give it a little early. Even if it is just a week before Christmas that will give them a chance to use it right away.

I would love to receive a Christmas themed gift for Christmas - and I have many, many times in the past..:)

I say do it! :thumbsup2

I have, for years, given my DW some sort of Santa every Christmas. I found myself faced w/the same conundrum, so I took a page from my history to rectify it. As a kid, my parents would give us kids an ornament on Thanksgiving, so that we would have a collection to call our own when we left home (I think Mom was making subtle hints even then ;) ). I get up early on T-day and put the new Santa gift out where she can find it, so she can enjoy it for the season. So, no, don't give the thought of a Christmas-themed gift a second thought. :santa:

Well if so I guess I'm really in trouble as I got someone a Thanksgiving themed gift this year for Christmas. :scared1: She'd really admired a similar gift I'd given to someone else recently so I thought it would make a nice gift for her as well. I'll get a little something else to go with it that she can use for herself sooner like some pretty earrings or something, lol. Come next fall she'll really love having them - they're beautiful pilgrim type/fall colored carved statues. I have some as well and I love putting them out with my fall things.

St. Nikolaus brings my children Christmas themed goodies (toys/barettes/tights/ornament...) on his day (which would be Dec. 6). I vote give it early so your friend can enjoy it longer this year.

I'd give it early. I'm not a fan of Christmas themed gifts on Christmas day.
But I'm someone who takes things done within a few days of Christmas.

I think that a Christmas decoration is fine. Just don't do what my Grandmother and ex SIL used to do....I can't tell you how many years my daughter got Christmas dresses or other Christmas themed clothing items (with Santa Claus or candy canes or whatever on them) in her current size ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Uh, when would she ever wear them, this is the last day we have Christmas parties to go to and they sure aren't going to fit my infant again next year.:confused3 I never complained, but I always thought it was kind of ridiculous.

My mom used to give me all kinds of Christmas stuff- early so I could put it out and use it- One thing she gave me that is so special is a Santa wreath-maybe made out of a paper mache' type. she told me she loved it because of the nice Santa face on it- on the back it is covered with green velvet and she wrote on it- she told me it was something she hoped I would always enjoy. That piece means more to me than anything now.

As long as it isn't a rudolph sweater with a light up nose, I think a Christmas themed present on Christmas is fine.
