Maybe it's just me, but I had some bad experiences with fish dishes at two decent restaurants in Disney over Memorial Day.

First night I had stuffed flounder at the Rainforest Cafe. The flounder was...off. However, my girlfriend's pot roast was awesome. We didn't care too much - we had been drinking margaritas for an hour or so.

Second night my girlfriend had seafood pasta at Palio while I had Oso Bucco. The scallops were kind of nasty. The Oso Bucco was awesome. By the way, they serve roasted garlic and olive oil with the bread. And they had a special on a reserve Chianti. So overall the experience was great.

Third night we finally had good fish - at the Flying Fish cafe. My tuna and her halibut were outstanding.

Moral - don't eat fish at Disney unless you are at a 4+ star restaurant.

Oh and don't let anyone tell you that you need a PS to get into the California Grill - just eat at the bar.

Sorry about your experiences. We have been dining at WDW restaurants since 1980 and haven't had a problem with fish not being fresh although I do think there are many more restaurants that offer good seafood dishes than there were years ago.

Palio and RFC are actually not operated by WDW although they are of course on property.

Yeah I should follow up by saying that I ate at the Living Seas many years ago and the food was great.

BTW, welcome to the DIS!

Eating at the bar is good advice--but only IF you can get a seat at the bar!! Lots of times (at least on weekend nights at fireworks time) folks crowd the bar and sit for hours waiting on the fireworks. One time on a Sat. nite we had dinner PS and had to wait an hour for our table. Unfortunately,we couldn't get a seat at the bar (or in the lounge) as people had planted themselves there and had no intention of moving until the fireworks.

had the best salmon ever at tusker house in AK

Sorry you had a couple bad meals, but I am not sure your "moral" really applies - after all Palio is considered on a par with Flying Fish in the Disney dining hierarchy (based on how Disney identifies restaurants by the cost of a meal).

However, I am not surprised that FF was great - it is certainly one of the best restaurants on property.

Palio's was great overall and I'd recommend it to anyone. Flying Fish specializes in seafood and I know the halibut had been flown in that day so it was fresh. Tuna is a specialty so that had BETTER be fresh.

I think they just cheaped out on the scallops. The shrimp was fine and my girlfriend doesn't like scallops anyway so she was satisfied. The caesar salad she had was awesome.
