Bad DCL experience... Do I need a new hobby?

I haven't read all the replies, so I'm sure this was said already, but I have a lot of trouble believing this letter was a true assessment of a DCL cruise. Sounds like a story made up for either a) publication attention or b) DCL dissing by competitor

If it were a true letter I'd say that the person is one that is never happy & goes looking for trouble EVERYWHERE & ALL of the time.

However, based on the comments she claimed were made, NO WAY - NOT TRUE!!!

WOW!! I just gotta reply to this! I've only been on two Disney cruises, but one was the "sick cruise" last November so I guess my opinion counts somewhat. The staff and service on the both of our cruises was incredible. Absolutely top-notch! I feel we have pretty high expectations and they were met and more. Could they have handled things differently during the initial Norwalk "crisis" on the ship. Certainly. But "hindsight is 20-20" and I don't think they realized how fast things could escalate. My family and friends are traveling with Disney again next December and I'm really just thankful the person who wrote the letter to Dave isn't going with us!!!

Where is Rae519????? She was the calming influence for all of us cancelled Magic cruisers Nov. of 2002. Let me see.......

1) The economy is in the toilet......people are losing their jobs and homes and she didn't get a refund for a moldy strawberry???

2) Her luggage got misplaced.......there are many young men and women halfway around the word who haven't seen their family for months......how lost do they feel???

3)In these trying times where families aren't ever together with dual incomes and kids are raised in daycare our DD's hung with us on both cruises because we don't get much time together, so we cherrish it!!!!

When we were cancelled everything went wrong at WDW.......all our reservations were changed and DCL was Ill prepared to change to handle it all. So to say the least I had a HUGE chip on my shoulder after waiting 2 1/2 years for our 7 night cruise that was cancelled the night before our departure!!!!! I deserved to be talked to the way this woman claims she was........But I was talked to with nothing but respect and concern. And as for the castmembers on the ship.......they went out of their way to be nice. And believe me I didn't deserve it.
But Rae519 whipped me into shape....DCL took care of us on our rebooking and I accepted their appology......and I can't wait to get onto that ship again.

Don't give it up Dave........I enjoy it.

The best is Disney gave our luggage to another woman and it was expressed checked in on Delta flight to South Carolina. Disney did nothing to help us get it back, I had to race around the airport on Saturday and tell Delta that they were in violation of the TSA and FAA (our bags belong to no one yet they were checked in!) I have a disability in my left leg and my knee gave out so I wound up in a wheel chair before we left Orlando.

I forwarded this thread to my husband and he made a lot of good points about this woman's comments. One of them was that DCL does not "give" luggage to anyone. If she's talking about disembarking the ship, everyone picks up their own luggage! DCL does not express check anyone's luggage to any airline. You have to check in your luggage outside if you're boarding a DCL bus to the airport. What is she talking about? Maybe someone picked her luggage up by mistake, who knows.

I also noticed she complained about having to ask for her "celebration" pin because she was celebrating her "X0" birthday at sea. What I have heard and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that DCL only gives birthday pins out to children who are celebrating their birthdays and have discontinued the practice of giving them out to adults. The demand seemed to be too great for these birthday pins and DCL would sometimes run out, so rather than leaving some people empty-handed, they now just present them to children. They probably could've said, "no" to her again (<i>heaven forbid!</i>), but notice that it sounds like she did end up with her pin.

I'm still in shock over all of the negative/unbelievable comments this woman has made. She's obviously traveled so much that I think she has gotten her cruise lines mixed up!

You may be right on the pin thing. I have celebrated two birthdays (number three comming up) on DCL and got a pin the first time but just the cake the second time.. the pin was nice enough but I didn't care about not getting one the next year.. Heck I would rather skip the cake and get a birthday drink instead.. Hey how about that every birthday girl/boy gets free champagne (provided they are over 18)

I did not know that Birthday pins were only for kids and was a bit put out that DH did not get one until I asked. Now I understand. I do with they had told me that though.

I DO LIKE the CHAMPAGNE idea!!! :)
AND
IF
I
:Pinkbounc
ever get to be on a DCL for my birthday may ask if that can be arranged. It would be worth it to pay for the bottle and tell them to forget the cake, their fancy special label is the best treat going!
THANKS FOR THE IDEA!

I just wanna know where the DISsers are going to tie their lime green ribbons for the orgy.

As for the original letter, I am just wondering if the poster was referring to the Big Red Boat or something. I do not believe many of her complaints.

Dave your website last year helped us take the plunge and go on our first DCL Wonder cruise. We are already going on the 7 day this year.

Your site as we all know cost you time and money to operate and is a great service to all of us. Just as Barb and Tony's site is.

People like the wet blanket that e-mailed are the type that can find something wrong anywhere and we are all better off having her not like Disney so we don't have to put up with her whining.

Don't think for a second you are not needed not appreciated because you are and many or us here feel that way.

I am sorry she was such a rude unhappy person but you are not and keep doing what you do best.........crusing DCL and sharing it with us :)

AWWWW! Thanks so much! I guess I just believe that challenges happen to us for a reason and although we can't see that reason now, it will be made clear later.

'thank you for missing me!!!!!! I just want people to "stop feeling so sorry for themselves - it's a negative attitude and considering that we have the ability to do these things...it's pretty crappy in my opinion!

We are able to feed/clothe and shelter our families AND take them on vacations. Let's realistically look at the whole world today and see how many other families are taking Disney 'Cruises - not too many from my town........and I have three this year alone. Yes, I am blessed! And everyday I thank my God for it and my challenges!

To whine about something that happened and you had no control over is wasting time and energy.... yup, whip you into shape!
By God, you have your health, wealth and your life ahead of you -= quit your complaining and get on with your living!!!!!!!

Life is toooooooo short to be miserable about any one incident - regardless of how horrific or tragic it has been. Don't believe me - read Kayla's story and then see how you feel.

BD???? Any ideas???

Too many, Jeanny. But none will pass the censors...

Now there I go again, ***-u-ming that they do! Sheesh, BD! Will I ever learn!!!!!!!
Is there any doubt why I jumped at the chance to go back to home schooling when Michael started asking for it this summer?

Nicki had very nice things to say about you, BD - but you truly did not tell us on the board how absolutely wonderful she is and how great her horses are! I put it all in my trip report!! We loved the ride and booked another for October 03!
Can't wait to go back!

Love to little B!

Rae can I use your above quote every time that other person from that cancelled cruise "reminds" us about it???

I would be honored, Jeanny!!!!

"Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit!"

We have been on four Disney cruises, I have always felt that if people don't have a good time, it is their own fault. (except for 4nana)

SO TRUE PJ!!! I am SO looking forward to my cruise... even if the weather doesn't cooperate and we don't get to go everywhere we're supposed to.... I'll still be on vacation and am SO ready to sit back, relax and enjoy myself..

I read the note from the person with utter amazement. We have been on 2 Disney cruises and are going for a back-to-back cruise in January (hope to see you Jenny). We were even on the Magic when it caught fire in the middle of the night. The crew was incredible.

I too believe that the only ones who have a bad time are the ones who are looking to have a bad time.

As for me and my household we can't wait to get back on the Magic.:earsboy: :earsgirl:
