I think that's why I feel totally safe at the world. I "know" security all over the place.

Maybe because I've spent enough years in big store retail, I know real security always blends in.

And knowing from my own experience, those dogs are taken better care of than most human employees.

A few years ago we were on the resort monorail. Tourist looking fellow (shorts, loud tee, dark glasses & longish hair). Suddenly pulled out a phone/two way radio and I saw the flesh colored wire coming out the back of his shirt up to his ear. He said something to the effect to just watch the individual, he was one stop away and dispatch had already called the Orange County Sheriff to meet them there. He got off in a hurry at the GF.

And you didn't quietly slip off the monorail behind him, tail him to his destination, and see what was going on?!

My father in law is a decorated retired police man and he thought about working security for Disney. I will have to ask him if he was approached somehow within his career or if he came up with the idea on his own I remeber him telling me that a lot of security in Disney are retired Policemen

Hi, I also saw the K-9 Unit in Epcot one morning. There was a backpack left up against a tree in a grassy area not where people are supposed to go,behind the metal fencing. And just when I was thinking to myself,How did someone LEAVE a backpack there?? I see security and the K-9 Unit arrive. I pointed it out to my family but nobody else was really paying any attention to them. Joan

When we were there in April, we saw two security guards and the K-9 dog at the beginning of the monorail ramp entrance outside EPCOT. They were watching the crowd. My 4 yr old son stopped for a moment and oohed over the dog (not going near it of course), I told them that the dog was beautiful (it was a gorgeous german shepherd) and off we went.

OOPS...I followed this thread right off topic...sorry! I have not seen any undercover security, as far as I know!

Wow, DD left her mini Tinkerbell backpack in the Main Street Bakery last July, at 1 in the morning during PM EMH. We were on the monorail by the time we realized it, so it was unattended for probably at least 45 minutes or so. When we returned they had it in the back of the bakery, they had not brought it to central Lost and Found yet. Wonder if the dogs sniffed it before we returned for it...

Last year an undercover approached my husband and asked him to lift up his shirt. She thought she saw something and was very rude about. She came of of no where. They are there and watching we just don't know it. We were kind of stunned there for a little bit.

Oh, how I love this thread! I am soooo into undercover security! I would looove to do that~~ I always feel so safe at Disney..I don't know why!! as I have never paid attention to undercovers before...I guess you just expect that as the extra Disney magic!!!! I know bad things can happen anywhere..but I think it's minimal there...KWIM?

This happened about 6 or 7 years ago while we were vacationing at WDW. We were at DHS (then MGM), looking around a souvenir store. My little sister who was about 2 or 3 at the time has always had a tendency to run away as soon as you blink your eye or turn your head. In fact, they called her Heather Houdini at her daycare for being able to get out of any contraption you put her in. So, she slid and unbuckled her way out of her stroller while my mom and I had turned our eye from her and decided to play hide and seek. As soon as we noticed she was gone, we started calling her... She didn't answer. We called her again... she didn't answer. We began calling her hysterically... she still didn't answer... But, a bunch of tourist-ey looking people came out of nowhere talking into their collars and found her within seconds.

That was the only encounter I know that I've had with Disney's undercover security... or were they?

I was walking into the AK when a man with a hooded sweatshirt decided he would be cute and go in the "no bags" checkpoint hiding his bag in his sweatshirt.

He was escorted off by two men in flowery shirts. They looked like tourists. I think he was with his family - and they were looking around for him - he just disappeared.

My husband is a NYPD sergeant and he said places like Disney LOVE retired cops, especially detectives and higher ranking members of the force. We joke about moving to FL when he retires in a few years and him getting a job there.

Don't JOKE...do it!! How awesome would that be!!! Lots of fun!!!!
I would love for us to do that and my dh could be a bus driver or something!! I would looove that!! I want to be a CM for the resorts...concierge or something!!!! Aaahhh,..to dream!!!!

I met security with the dog too one morning in Epcot.
He stopped to pose for me, and said no one ever took his picture with his dog.

Once we witnessed a lady take a NASTY fall using a baby carrier. I mean ther was blood all over and the woman couldn't pick up her crying infant, it was THAt bad! I strongly suggest folks avoid using those at WDW. Also, I just read that some slings may cause even worse problems for young babies..

I wouldn't generalize about carriers. The dangerous slings are a specific type (bag slings) or caused by human error. Personally, I will likely be wearing my 2 year old who is unable to walk in a Beco carrier for a significant part of our time at Disney World. It goes on the front or back. It's pretty rare for there to be serious problems related to a carrier, and the wonderful advantages (snuggliness, ease of carrying, no stroller) outweigh any perceived risk. Although the biggest risk I generally find is getting my hair pulled if my toddler gets bored!

And back on topic....the Disney security rocks!

I had a serious fall at Epcot a few years back that required me to be carried out by EMTs. My husband jokes that the EMTs and park management popped out of the trash cans. I wasn't real aware of what was going on around me at the time but I do remember dh talking with a man who whizzed up on a Segway. DH was giving him our contact info and quick description of what had happened. In just a few minutes, I was stablized, loaded up and rolled out a side gate to the waiting ambulance. Help arrived and took care of my needs VERY quickly. Probably less than 10 minutes from accident to ambulance.

I had a run in with another "dad" a few years back. He physically assaulted my then 4 year old son. I took some rather decisive action that was quite noticeable and the first 2 "Disney employees" to get to me where two plain clothes tourist types. As we left the area I remember talking to one of them about their rather loud colored golf shirt

A similar incident occured yesterday, in DL's Tomorrowland. The news helicopter shots from overhead showed the entire plaza in front of SM totally void of people. Visitors were blocked off from the Main Street hub entrance to Tomorrowland. You're right - 30 feet doesn't seem far enough!

BTW, yesterday's backpack also contained food. Better safe than sorry, though.

I'm really curious (and appalled) why someone assaulted your son. Do you mind sharing the background?

Not related to anything like shoplifting etc. but while we were in line waiting to see Snow White in MK at the expo hall? I think, an older man that worked the car across the entranceway passed out in the heat. My husband was the first to respond to administer first aid/cpr to the gentleman and out of nowhere several guys in regular clothing blocked off the area so that my hubby could do his thing until paramedics showed up. They were super nice and some entertained my children so they weren't scared. Amazingly organized and put full trust in my hubby. He's combat life saver trained and his military instincts just took over and actually kind of scolded one guy that tried to take over. LOL
